Normally, it’s our senior teams taking centre stage, but this week was a little different…

Yesterday, an Offerton CC Select XI hosted a Stockport County XI in our annual fixture, with plenty of first-team players and management in attendance. It was another fantastic occasion between two great clubs.

Stockport County won the toss and elected to bat first.

Faith Ebbage took the new ball against power-hitting goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe and midfield maestro Ollie Norwood. Ben got things going with a boundary from the very first ball, but Faith responded brilliantly, bowling with great control throughout her three-over spell.

Louie Cassidy opened from the other end, finishing with figures of 0-27 from his three overs. 🫣

With Stockport cruising at 32-0 after four overs, captaincy turned to Cian Simpson – and what a change it proved to be! Cian struck with just his third ball, dismissing Ben Hinchliffe (rumour has it his mum still isn’t talking to him… 🤣). He wasn’t finished there either, removing Ollie Norwood in the same over to complete a superb double-wicket maiden.

Steve Cree entered the attack shortly after (following two dropped dollies in the field 👀) and was punished for 12 in his over.

The next breakthrough came in the 10th over when Super Max Mannion joined the attack. Although Theo Woodward launched his first delivery for six, Max bounced back to dismiss Head Groundsman Liam Cash.

Harrison Gill added another wicket by removing Jason Taylor, while the final wicket came via a brilliant piece of fielding from Harley, with Stanley backing up before Cian completed the run-out of O’Connell.

Stockport County finished on 152-5 from their 20 overs.

Chasing 153, Bailey Hinks and Hugo Knowles gave Offerton a solid start before Bailey departed for 13. Stu followed soon after for 4, leaving us 35-2.

Hugo made 16 before being caught, while Cians poor showing with the bat continued, holing out for 2 to none other than Ben Hinchliffe at deep square leg. You couldn’t place it any better if you tried! 😅

Karl Williams contributed 11 before becoming the fifth wicket to fall at 54.

Steve Cree and Ollie Palmer then mounted an excellent fightback. Cree looked determined to make everyone forget those two dropped catches (sorry Stevie… we haven’t 😅), making a valuable 21.

Ollie Palmer played a superb innings, smashing three fours and two sixes on his way to 27, while Adam Davies retired on 12.

With 12 needed from the final three balls, the chase went right down to the wire. We managed only three from the next two deliveries, leaving nine required from the last ball. Harrison then produced arguably the shot of the match, launching his second six of the innings over the long boundary ending on 25 from 10 balls—but it wasn’t quite enough.

Stockport County claimed victory by just 3 runs in a brilliant contest.

Moment of the day was Stockport county’s sub fielder Cayden Simpson completing missing a shot from his boss Adam Davies which megged him and went for 4 runs.

Unfortunately, there will be no training this week (24th July) due to a private event taking place at the club.

While we’re disappointed to miss a session, it also gives our incredible coaches and volunteers a well-deserved week off. Their hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout the season never go unnoticed, and we’re grateful for everything they do for our players and club.

We hope everyone enjoys the break, and we’ll be back next week (31st July) refreshed and ready to go!

Match Report – Offerton 1st XI vs Wirral 1XI

Offerton 1st XI slipped to a disappointing five-wicket defeat after being put into bat following the loss of the toss.

Batting first, Offerton posted a competitive 189 all out from 24.1 overs. Andrew Thomas led the way with a composed 57 from 58 balls, while Shahab Kiani added 27 and Shyam Teja Gollavilli injected some late momentum with a quick-fire 31 from just 17 deliveries. Contributions throughout the order helped Offerton recover from regular wickets, although they were unable to build the big partnership needed to push beyond the 200-run mark.

Defending 190, Offerton’s opening bowlers immediately asked questions of the Wirral top order, creating early chances that unfortunately went untaken. Those missed opportunities proved decisive, gifting both Wirral openers additional lives at the crease and allowing them to establish a solid platform for the chase.

Despite fighting back with wickets falling at 51-1, 105-2, 125-3, 147-4 and 147-5, Offerton were unable to regain complete control. Shyam Teja Gollavilli was the standout bowler with 2-28 from six excellent overs, while Mian Muhammad Sabar claimed 2-55 and Muhammad Jahanzaib Akhtar picked up the other wicket.

The dropped chances ultimately proved costly as the reprieved batters made Offerton pay. Ishtiaq Hussain anchored the innings with an unbeaten 107, guiding Wirral to victory by five wickets.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Offerton, who will reflect on what might have been had the early chances been taken. The bowlers created enough opportunities to put the game beyond the visitors, but the missed catches shifted the momentum and ultimately proved the difference between the two sides.

Match Report | Mellor CC 1st XI vs Offerton CC 2nd XI
A superb team performance saw Offerton CC 2nd XI claim a hard-fought 2-wicket victory away at Mellor CC 1st XI after chasing down 202 in an entertaining contest.
After winning the toss, Mellor elected to bat first and posted 201 all out from their 40 overs. Offerton's bowlers worked tirelessly throughout the innings, with L Cassidy producing the standout spell, claiming 4-43 from 9 overs. He was well supported by Z Yaqub (1-33), N Kiani (1-20), A Dar (1-44) and S Khalifa (1-14), ensuring Mellor never completely ran away with the game.
In reply, Offerton showed great character in the chase. A Dar anchored the innings brilliantly with a composed 57, while N Kiani held his nerve to finish 41 not out. Valuable contributions from S Khalifa (38) and Z Yaqub (29) kept the scoreboard moving as wickets fell at regular intervals.
With the pressure mounting late in the innings, Offerton kept their composure to reach the target and seal a 2-wicket win, completing an excellent all-round performance away from home.
A fantastic result for the 2nd XI and another important victory built on disciplined bowling, determined batting, and a real team effort. 🔵⚪🏏
