A Stockport pool 🤝 A sporting legend
Before the 19 Paralympic gold medals, Dame Sarah Storey was a young swimmer training in Stockport at Grand Central swimming pool with Stockport Metro Swimming Club.
She remembers the excitement of having a brand-new pool on her doorstep, using the wider facilities to develop as an athlete, and even her first job there as a Lifeguard.
But Sarah’s story is also a reminder that local leisure facilities aren’t just about creating champions.
They’re about giving children the chance to build confidence, learn a skill for life, discover something they love, and find out what they’re capable of.
