Great open pairs competition today at West Heaton, sponsored by Carlsberg Britvic, with 26 pairs taking part. Last year’s winners Lee Jones & Andy Clegg of West Heaton reached the final and narrowly lost 21 20 to Tony Moore & Ian McGowan from the Victoria Bowling Club. Big thank you to Eddie for putting it all together , to Lorraine Lucy Faith Doris and Sue for all the help in the kitchen, also big thank you to Ita Gannon for running the competition and compering all through the day. Great to have so many committee members down to help out all day too 👍👏😄
Prizes presented by Past President Jo Taylor.

The Annual Tennis Tournament concluded with five excellent competitive finals - men’s and women’s singles and doubles and the mixed doubles followed by a hugely enjoyable evening celebration of the tournament and the summer season. While not overblown with speeches we will long remember Nic’s impressive adoption of Hamlet (surely a first!), George’s foray into stand-up and Isaac’s most mature contribution. Well done to all!

This summer we had several teams competing in the North East Cheshire Junior Tennis league including boys and girls from U13 up to U18. There was some terrific tennis on display and our players did West Heaton proud. Congratulations to the U13 boys who were champions of their division, winning each of their 7 matches in convincing style. Well played all!

Just catching up with a couple of big recent bowling pairs comps.
First we had the Internal Pairs competition (choose your own partner) which was won by father and son team Mike and Andy Clegg for the fourth year running, with runners up being Eddie Tasker and Chris Law. A great competition with 12 pairs taking part. The consolation final was won by Gayle Barrow & Sofia Milone, with runners up Nicola Humphries & David Delahunty. Big thanks to our President who played in the competition and presented the prizes. Thank you to all who came down and helped mark and measure.

Next up was Sunday’s conclusion of the Running Pairs. Partners are selected at random and the early stages are played over the first part of the season, followed by a Finals Day.
Congratulations to Lee Jones and Gayle Barrow for winning the trophy and well done to Eddie Tasker and Jo Taylor as runners up. Thank you to all the competitors, markers and supporters. Big thank you to Alison Sharman our Vice President for coming to watch and present the prizes.

Really enjoyable Legends Tennis Tournament today (ie over 60s). Congratulations to Graeme Dagg (happy 60th birthday Graeme !) and Maggie Judkins and to runners-up Debbie and Richard Meadowcroft. Thanks to Richard for organising and to Graeme’s twin sister Laura for helping. Very competitive comp played in a great spirit. We oldies can still get about the court without the “two bounces” rule !

The summer family pub night was a fabulous night! It was really well attended and everyone made the most of the warm, sunny evening. It was fantastic to see the courts full of children enjoying playing tennis too.

We look forward to welcoming everyone again for the final pub night in September.
