U16 girls match report
Really proud of the girls today away at Altrincham. Only had 12, four were coughing constantly and we were playing a fit and strong Altrincham side on a massive pitch.
First half was a battle, we couldn’t keep the ball and whilst we dig in the constant attacks were a real challenge. That said, real grit from the whole defensive unit, even as we chopped and changed to try to give the girls time to recover.
We conceded after about 35 minutes, unlucky with the run of the ball and we were behind.
At half time we praised the effort and commitment, which was present in droves but said we needed to improve our ball retention.
The girls applied this brilliantly, with the second half a very even contest in which we constantly looked dangerous. We equalised through Caitlyn, after a flowing move down the left involving Scarlett, with Darcy swinging in a perfect cross for Caitlyn to slot into the corner.
Altrincham were shocked, and we took control, we were much further up the pitch and playing some nice football, a poor clearance from their keeper allowing Caitlyn to loft it in the net from 35 yards to put us ahead.
The game got a bit tense and niggly with several fouls and delays, Altrincham grabbed a draw with ten minutes left after a straight ball through was one too many for the back four to intercept.
Great character, and determination on a challenging day starts the league season with a good point away from home.
No POTM, a team performance like that is shared.
