Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), autumn is associated with the Metal element and the colour white, representing a time of turning inward, harvesting, and letting go.The organs associated with Metal are the Lungs (yin) and Large Intestine (yang). The emotions of Grief, sadness, and the capacity for letting go. To support the Metal Element in Autumn protect yourself from dry, chilly winds by keeping your neck and chest covered. Adjust your diet and eat moistening, warming foods like squash, pumpkin, pears, apples, and nourishing soups or stews. Practice the Metal element form of Hsing I.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), late summer is viewed as a distinct fifth season running from mid-August to the fall equinox. It corresponds to the Earth element, which anchors the center, symbolises the harvest, and bridges the active peak of summer with the reflective inward pull of autumn.
Core Correspondences of the Earth Element Organs: Spleen (yin) and Stomach (yang), which govern digestion, transformation, and the extraction of nutrients into Qi and blood.
Emotion: Sympathy, empathy, and centeredness when balanced; rumination, overthinking, and excessive worry when out of balance.
Taste & Color: Sweet (nurturing, natural flavors like root vegetables) and Deep Golden Yellow (representing ripe grain, earth, and maturity).
Climate/Pathogen: Dampness, which can tax the digestive centre if internal or external moisture accumulates.
Health and Lifestyle Focus Nourish Digestion: Shift away from an excess of cold, raw foods and favor warm, cooked, easily digestible meals like soups, stews, and naturally sweet root vegetables (carrots, sweet potatoes).
Seek Balance and Grounding: Focus on routine, mindful eating without distractions, and stabilising activities like gentle stretching, walking, or spending time grounded in nature.
Quiet the Mind: Practice mental centering to curb excessive worry, treating this transition as a personal harvest to integrate the year’s growth so far.
