Well for the few who turned up to train today it was a very intense and productive lesson.
Strangely it was a lesson with no frills, no big demanding Jiu Jitsu throws , no long Freestyle combinations and no complex Kata. What it was was a return to the most basic training with full explanation and detailed break down. Was it fast?? No, but it still left everyone soaked in sweat because it demanded as much mental work as it did physical effort. Today everyone worked exceptionally hard to get everything right and to improve the little things that make getting the big things right a whole lot easier.
Well Done to Everyone and Thank You for a great lesson.

A fantastic days training today at Bushido that focused on QUALITY as opposed to QUANTITY.
The lesson content was kept to a few techniques that students drilled until they became second nature.
This was the format for Jiu Jitsu and Freestyle with all students taking part in one discipline in each half of the day.
Each technique was explained in detail and errors ironed out. The hardest session was the Karate lesson that left the Jiu Jitsu students exhausted.
So many gains were made today and so many students left feeling very pleased with their efforts.
Excellent lessons with Excellent efforts.
Huge Thanks to Sensei Paul and Sensei Owen for their impressive Instruction and support.
Enjoy your weekend.

These memories are so special, but it hardly seems 11 years ago that Sensei Dylan Taylor rocked his 2nd Dan Black Belt.
Even stranger is I recall his Dad Paul coming up to speak to me at a demo Bushido put on in Torkington Park about enrolling his very young son Dylan.
Dylan joined Bushido and was soon joined by his Sister Emily who also enjoyed a very productive time with Bushido.
Give it a few years and they will be bringing their Children to join us too. 🤣🤣🤣 I bet Paul and Emma both nearly fainted reading this 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Sensei Ethan Arkell was today’s only candidate taking on 2nd Dan Freestyle Karate.
Right from the start he made his intention clear , that failure was not an option. With 4 Instructors on his panel he knew he was going to be worked hard.
Beginning with basic strikes, kicks and blocks the pace was set. Sensei Ethan had set off at a blistering pace and was determined to put on a show of excellence.
Basic kata was followed by his 2nd Dan syllabus as the heat in the dojo climbed ever higher.
After his syllabus was completed it was each syllabus down from 2nd Dan to ensure he remained connected to all he had been taught. A break for water and a bite to eat gave way to self defence applications and weapon attacks . More kata followed right up to Bassai Dai and then Bo Kata and Sword. The final segment was pads with no let up in pace, especially with brutal conditioning being part of it. At the end it was a sweat soaked Ethan who awaited his fate.
The unanimous decision was Ethan had successfully passed 2nd Dan in Freestyle Karate.
Huge Congratulations Sensei on a very well deserved promotion to 2nd Dan. You showed true Black Belt determination and commitment today.Thank You to Jayden and Charlie for your support as Ukes in the grading , it is very much appreciated.
A Special mention to Kaz , Ethan’s Mum who couldn’t be here today. Kaz is recovering from a surgery and I know everyone at Bushido joins me in wishing Kaz a speedy recovery.
Thank You to Chief Instructor Sensei Paul and Senior Instructors Sensei Luke and Sensei Owen for your professionalism in running this grading.
The next lesson is Monday with time for Tournament practice with Sensei John McManus.
Enjoy your weekend .

A very hot and humid night tonight which seems to have brought out people's silly side.
A gentle reminder that this is a martial arts academy where you come to train, build confidence and become a stronger, more capable human being. Being forever the optimist I'll chalk it down to the weather but on Saturday there will be a black belt grading on the freestyle mat so best behaviour all round.
Tonight the freestyle students practiced punches, kicks, stance and blocks while the Jujitsu students worked on throws. They then spent the last hour practicing weapons Kata for the upcoming tournament which is a week on Saturday.
There is no fitness class this weekend, as mentioned above there is a black belt grading on the freestyle mats. I encourage everyone to come and train as normal as there will still be plenty for both styles to learn. Also I will be giving out the certificates to the students who have recently passed their grading.
If it's as hot and humid as tonight please bring plenty of water or alternatively we have some in the tuck shop for you to purchase.
See you on Saturday!

Well Junes Grading most definitely did not disappoint as it had everything you expect from a grading. The “ MAGNIFICENT SEVEN” taking part most definitely brought their A game.
Sensei Paul put the Freestyle candidates through a very searching and intense grading. Everything from basic stance, kicks , strikes and combinations and Kata were fully explored.
Over on the Jiu Jitsu mats I ensured no stone was left unturned with the two candidates I had. Following similar path as the Freestyle with basics , the heat was then turned up and full on Jiu Jitsu became an exceptional days offering.
Stand out Student of the two Grading sessions was Charlie who smashed his grading with an outstanding 98%. Such was his excellent demonstration of skill, ability and understanding of technique he was also awarded 3rd Kyu Jiu Jitsu. Huge Congratulations Charlie on well deserved promotion.
Congratulations also go to
Jerome 8th Kyu Freestyle
Janna. 8th Kyu Freestyle
Darius. 6th Kyu Freestyle
Philip. 4th Kyu Freestyle
Damian. 3rd Kyu Freestyle
Rachel. 6th Kyu Jiu Jitsu
Charlie.4th Kyu Jiu Jitsu Distinction
Charlie. 3rd Kyu Jiu Jitsu Promotion
Again Huge Thank You to everyone who gave their time to be Ukes. Your selflessness and loyalty to your fellow students is greatly appreciated.
Now the work towards Septembers grading begins in earnest for some of you. For those taking higher grades December is your target.
Thank you All for a great grading day, you should be very proud of your achievement.
