Amazing achievement for the walking cricket team of Doune & Dunblane Cricket playing their first ever fixture last week. Just under a year since the group formed as one of the first of its kind in the country. Well done for their efforts and spirit which has seen them grow and now thriving with every ball bowled. Here is to the first of hopefully many games to come!

A brilliant variation of the sport for all ages and abilities, with so much fun to be had which you can tell from the match report below. If you want to get involved they play every Friday currently in Doune and then over winter indoors at Dunblane. Contact the club for more details.

History was likely made this week as our walking cricketers took on Stirling Bowling Club in what is believed to be the very first inter-club walking cricket match ever held in Scotland!

For the uninitiated, walking cricket delivers all the tactics and drama of the traditional game, just with a strict "no running" rule, making it highly accessible, strategic, and incredibly fun.

The First Innings:
Stirling Bowls Club won the toss and chose to bat first. After a solid, composed start from their openers, the DDC bowlers started turning up the heat. A couple of DDC bowlers put on a masterclass, picking up two wickets each, including a rare and impressive "double-wicket maiden" (an over where two wickets are taken and zero runs are scored).

Despite the tough bowling, SBC steadied the ship to finish their innings with a respectable score of 60 runs. Their top batsman led the charge with a solid 18 runs.

The Second Innings:
DDC’s turn at the crease started a bit rocky, with early batters losing their wickets a few times. However, they quickly made up for it with some explosive hitting, including multiple 4s and 6s.

The middle order brought a mix of styles to the pitch, some batting with elegant, textbook style, while others took a more "agricultural" (unorthodox and hard-hitting) approach.

DDC's final batting pair comfortably brought the victory home. DDCC finished on 77 runs, with our top scorer knocking out a brilliant 22 runs.

While Doune & Dunblane Cricket Club took the win this time, the real winner was the fantastic, sporting spirit shared by both teams.

The friendly rivalry isn't over yet. Next Tuesday, DDC will head over to Stirling Bowls Club's home turf for the highly anticipated return leg on the bowling green!

Delighted to present our most recent Club Development Award to Stirling Wolves Petanque Club!

Following the installation of their incredible new pistes earlier this year. The club are now preparing to host the home nations competition on the weekend of August 8th/9th that will draw over 100 of the best players from across Great Britain & Jersey.

Not stopping there, this grant will support the club to purchase junior boules as they look to expand their club to include a new youth section.

Huge well done to all at the club on all of their endeavours and achievements.

| CSS Board Update |

Following our Annual General Meeting at the end of April, we took the decision to elect office bearer positions from our valued Trustees at our May Board meeting.

Firstly we would like to give a huge thank you to Alan Robertson who has stepped down from the position of Chairperson. Alan served in the role for over 2 years and was an outstanding advocate for Stirling's Clubs while providing great vision and leadership as we became a Charity, an achievement that will see us well Governed for many years to come. Pleased to stay Alan has remained on the board as a Trustee for the coming year.

We are excited to share that the new Chairperson of ClubSport Stirling is Maciek Kornobis. Maciek has been on the committee for 3 years now and alongside his brilliant work as Director of Community Rugby at Bannockburn Rugby Club we are fortunate to benefit from his infectious passion and effort in the name of local sport.

Joining Maciek and the rest of the board is Abby McMenamin who we are delighted to welcome as our newest Trustee! Abby undertook her honours year placement with us last year where she led a number of projects in support of the network. Now she joins us while serving as the ladies secretary for Stirling Carrigan’s GFC.

Thank you to both Maciek and Abby as well as all of our Trustees for their continued hard work and contributions as we celebrate our 50th anniversary year.

Celebrating Our 2026 Volunteer Award Winners - Active Stirling 15/06/2026

Really great evening celebrating the Volunteer Awards with Active Stirling at Stirling High School.

It was brilliant to see so many volunteers, nominees, partners and supporters all in one place, recognising the huge contribution people make across our communities.

ClubSport Stirling is proud to be part of this and to support the volunteers and clubs who give so much of their time to help others get active, feel included and stay connected. These awards really highlight the difference volunteering makes across sport and physical activity in Stirling.

As we continue to mark 50 years of ClubSport Stirling, it is clear just how important volunteer-led sport is and how much impact it has at every level, from coaching and supporting sessions through to creating welcoming environments in clubs.

A big thank you to everyone who was nominated, received an award, or helped organise the evening, and to those who took the time to submit nominations.

Congratulations again to all the winners and nominees.
