Stirling University Golf Club

On Thursday 29th February, members of the SUGC completed our charity walk up Dumyat with our golf clubs on our back.

Around 30 of us met at the golf centre at the university, and we were honoured to be joined by Rtd Lt Colonel Johnny Stewart, who is Lord-Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire and great supporter of the Univeristy of Stirling golf programme. He is also a friend of high performance golf coach Dean Robertson, our Head of Golf, and the 2025 Walker Cup Captain.

It was a lovely day and it was brilliant to get so many members of the club together for a great cause in SAMH, Scotland's National Mental Health Charity. We had many of Stirlingshire’s walkers confused, they must have thought they had missed the golf course on their way to the summit.

The walk allowed us the opportunity to get some much needed sunlight and fresh air amidst a busy time with our student golfers focusing on their studies and preparing for the start of the golf season.

Currently, our fundraising is at an incredible £1,185, with this due to hit £1,200 when the club fundraiser has finished. These funds will go directly to SAMH, and will hopefully play a massive part in helping with Scotland’s mental health crisis.

We cannot thank each of you who have supported us with this fundraiser enough. This has been a fantastic event, and one that we look forward to continuing in the years to come.

We will be walking up Dumyat, one of Stirling's distinctive hills, with our golf clubs on our backs, to represent the extra weight that some people carry with them due to mental health.

We will be leaving the golf centre at 10am sharp on Thursday 29th, and would be delighted if anybody would like to join us.

Dean Robertson has been appointed Great Britain and Ireland Captain for the 50th Walker Cup match at the Cypress Point Club 🇬🇧🇮🇪

The High Performance Golf Coach at the University of Stirling will bring a wealth of experience to the position having played in the Walker Cup in 1993 and acted as Head Coach of the European Arnold Palmer Cup team in 2009.

Wins for our 1’s, 2’s & 3’s this weekend, with a tied match for the 4’s and a narrow defeat for the 5’s.
