Bishop’s Stortford U15s vs Shephall United U15s

Shephall came into this game off the back of an opening week win and full of confidence but with a depleted squad and only 12 players available, we knew it was going to be an uphill battle.
The game started at a high pace, with neither side taking charge. There were lots of quick-paced attacks from both teams. Shephall found the breakthrough when some quick one-twos down the left wing saw a save from the Bishop’s Stortford keeper fall at the feet of a Shephall attacker, who calmly slotted the ball into the net to give Shephall the lead.
We slowly began to take control of the game, with any balls sent into our half being mopped up by our defenders, who then looked to build our attacks with quick passing. Half-time came with a narrow 1–0 lead.
Shephall started the second half quickly, with probing passes through the Bishop’s Stortford defence. Although we had no joy from those attacks, a second goal came from a well-struck but wayward volley that ended up on the head of a Shephall attacker, who found the back of the net.
With 20 minutes left, Shephall conceded a soft penalty, which the Bishop’s Stortford striker slotted perfectly into the bottom corner, leaving our stand-in goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
Shephall tried to bounce back but the lack of substitutes and the size of the pitch made it difficult, with several players pushing themselves to their limits and beyond. With Bishop’s Stortford’s tails up, they pushed and hounded us until they managed to find the equaliser.
The game ended shortly after, with both teams pushing for a winner but neither able to find one. Not the result we wanted but definitely the performance!
Man of the Match was a young man who gave his all and never stopped running. That running and commitment was what got us our first goal. Well done! 🏆
