Food insecurity isn’t just about not having enough food—it’s about having access to affordable, nutritious food and the knowledge, skills and support to make healthy choices.
Today, we were pleased to contribute to the workshop ‘Building a Sustainable Community Response to Food Insecurity and Health Inequality’, led by Professor Basma Ellahi and Professor Morven McEachern.
Thank you to Taf Sharif for inviting us to share our experience from a Tameside perspective.
At The Power of Resilience CIC, our four community pantries, food rescue, community cooking, food education and community garden all aim to reduce food waste, tackle food poverty and build food resilience—without shame or judgement.
It was great to connect with others working across food poverty and health inequalities, and to hear about the growing interest in growing your own food.
Building resilience starts with community, collaboration and making the most of what we already have.
