The flies have been relentless over summer this year.

We usually gralloch back at the larder for hygiene - a decision in its own right as it can mean carcasses being left on the ground ungralloched until they are picked up. But in the extreme temperatures of summer, we opt to gralloch in the field as they would be left simply too long.

In this situation, we want to protect the carcass, now even more exposed, from flies. Flystrike can happen quickly.

This summer we bought a couple of Mjølner Hunting ® fly nets which easily fit roe and have used them to great success when out with clients. They are probably large enough for a fallow doe. We have come back to pick up carcasses absolutely covered in flies on the outside of these with none making it through to them.

Well worth the option!
