Ever feel off… but can’t quite say why?
Wired but wiped.
Snappy but spaced out.
Like your body and brain are arguing in the background?
That’s dysregulation.
And it’s not a flaw — it’s a signal.
From your nervous system, trying to help you cope.
But you can’t regulate what you don’t notice.
You can’t shift a state you haven’t named.
The turning point?
It starts with this question:
“What do I truly need right now?”
(That’s not always an easy answer — but it’s always a worthy one.)

Just About Hanging In There?
If we’ve not met before, I’m Jake—health coach, husband, dad, and occasionally upside down.
I help busy parents get strong, clear-headed, and energised again—without fads, shame, or spreadsheets.
I believe:
- Your body’s not broken. It’s responding to your environment.
- Real food beats calorie counting.
- Movement should feel like play.
- Rest isn’t lazy—it’s strategy.
- And your health? It’s contagious. Your kids are watching. Your people are following. So let’s lead.
This work isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing what works.
What lasts.
What your body actually evolved to expect.

“There’s no such thing as a healthy tan.” Let’s unpack that.
Yes — a tan is the result of damage.
But so is building muscle after a workout.
So is the micro-inflammation your gut handles every time you eat.
Damage isn’t the problem.
It’s how well prepared your body is to recover, rebuild, and adapt.
Melanin is your skin’s way of saying:
🟡 “I’ve registered that sun… and I’m now better equipped to handle more.”
The real risk?
Overexposure when your system is undernourished, inflamed, and unadapted from spending months indoors under artificial light.
So instead of avoiding the sun entirely or roasting for hours in the name of “health” — try this:
✔️ Get morning light in your eyes daily
✔️ Nourish your skin from the inside (think collagen, micronutrients, hydration)
✔️ Start with half your burn time, then slowly increase
✔️ Never burn — but don’t hide either

You’ve been told that if something hurts, you should stop moving.
Fair.
But also… incomplete.
🛑 Full-stop rest does have its place — after acute injury, surgery, or full-blown burnout.
But most of the time?
You don’t need to park the car. You just need to learn to steer again.
Because pain isn’t just a sign of damage.
Often, it’s a request for safer inputs. A protective alarm from a system that’s lost trust.
And that trust?
You rebuild it through low-stakes movement.
→ Mobilise the joint any way that doesn’t make things worse
→ Breathe
→ Back off, circle round, try again
Every time you move without flaring it up, you’re sending a new signal:
“Hey, it’s safe here.”
That’s how we change the loop.
Because when you stop moving completely?
Your extracellular matrix (that juicy web of fascia + connective tissue) gets drier, stiffer, more adhesive.
The longer you wait, the harder it is to shift.
So move what you can.
Move how you can.
Do it with curiosity. Do it with kindness.
And your body will start to follow.

Yes, I’m eating gummy bears.
But not the Haribo kind.
These are made by .tulip from our own garden berries and high-quality gelatin — a collagen + vitamin C double whammy. 🍓✨
They taste amazing, support gut and joint health, and they’re a great example of how ancestral eating principles can be woven into the everyday.
I’m a big fan of nose-to-tail eating (bone broth, slow-cooked cuts & offal) — but in summer, when the berries are overflowing and we’ve already eaten fresh and filled the freezer…
…these squishier or blemished ones get a second life.
✅ Real food
✅ Low waste
✅ Supportive for skin, joints, gut, and recovery
Collagen isn’t just a beauty buzzword.
It’s something most people aren’t getting nearly enough of — especially if you’re training, pregnant, postpartum, or over 30.

Clients are always shocked at how quickly their energy improves when they stop fearing fat. Here's what I recommend instead. Prioritise high-quality animal protein that naturally comes with nutrient dense fat, and throw in other fat sources like olive oil, avocado, macadamias. Your body will thank you.
