Dear Former Players,

The Saints are fundraising with a view to improving facilities at The Rec and we could do with your help!

For £100 you can purchase a seat in the new stand and have your name/message displayed on a wall tile as well!!!

Some important initiatives for your attention:
Pie and a pint is back for Saturday's MASSIVE Scottish Cup game against Jeanfield Swifts.
Also, please consider our 'buy a seat/plaque' for only £100 - every penny will go to a very worthwhile cause!!!

Can anybody provide me with email addresses and/or mobile numbers for any of these three former St Andrews United players please?
Ian Auras
Tom Henderson
Sam Buchan
I'd like to complete their 'past player profiles' with a view to getting the 'Super Saints' book in print before Christmas!!!
Many thanks, Don G.

Hello Folks,

On behalf of the St Andrews United Executive Committee, I would like to announce that we are about to host an exciting event at The Rec . . . . . . . The Official Centenary Dinner!

Delayed due to Covid 19, The Centenary Dinner will now take place in The Social Club on Saturday the 22nd of October 2022 with a 7.30pm start.

With internationally renowned speakers Chic Young and James McFadden already committed to take part, a super three-course meal being prepared by external caterers and St Andrews United legends due to attend, it will be an event not to miss!!!

We will also run an auction and raffle on the night with proceeds going to St Andrews United so we look forward to seeing you there.

Tickets cost £75 per person and they can be purchased directly from current Vice-Chairman Eric Gillespie. Eric’s mobile telephone number is: 07552 632 777, though any unsold tickets will be available to purchase at our next home game.

Only 100 tickets are on general sale on a first-come, first-served basis so we expect them to sell fast. Eric will not hold tickets in reserve so get in quickly and secure your place at a unique event!

Best Wishes,
Don Gellatly
Secretary
P.S. Raffle Prizes by donation would be welcome

Good Morning Former Players,
Further to my correspondence earlier in the week, I have bad news/good news regarding the St Andrews United former players’ game at The Rec. Due to a couple of factors highlighted in a committee meeting held yesterday, surrounding the Social Club and player/committee/referee availability, we have taken a decision to postpone the event by a few weeks. The game will NOT take place on Sunday the 28th of August as result. However, the committee has promised me that the event will be even bigger and better when it does take place later in the autumn – new date TBC ASAP! We’re now talking about playing on a Friday night under the new floodlights with a full gathering taking place in the Social Club afterwards. As such, I would be delighted if all existing players who are already signed up are able to switch dates and I look forward to extending the invite to those who couldn’t make the 28th of August, I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused and I look forward to seeing you all at The Rec in the near future!!!!!
Very Best Wishes,
Don

We have now secured enough interest in the St Andrews United Past Players’ game at The Rec on Sunday the 28th of August for the event to go ahead!!! Kick off 2.30pm. There is NO entry fee and food will be available in the Social Club afterwards. All players will be wearing last season’s kit (hopefully it all fits!!!) and teams plus player/managers will be selected once the entry list is complete. The changing pavilion will be open before and after the game, though I’m not planning on splitting the squads into separate rooms. Players are requested to bring their own footwear and shin guards, though the park is dry and hard so don’t worry too much if you don’t have studded boots as it is only a friendly! However, there are still a limited number of spaces left for former St Andrews United players to sign up so feel free to spread the word! Several notable names have already agreed to take part so far and they include:
Alan Speirs (and friends), Ross Watson, Jim Mackie, Jamie Mackie, Greig Dochard, Stevie Clark, Graham Nicoll, Darren Davidson, Gary Lamont, Kevin Smart, Alex Bowman, Gary Stevenson, Scott Butchart, Craig Gilbert, Lee Sibanda (and co. from Cupar?), Sincy Marr (and co. from St Andrews), Garry Wright and Scott Meikle.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW THAT YOU CAN STILL PLAY AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE END OF THE MONTH.
Best Wishes,
Don

Here's group photograph from last night's gathering of former St Andrews United players. How many do you recognise or remember??? Hopefully, we'll get some of these lads along to the Past Players' Game at The Rec on the 28th of August plus The Official Centenary Dinner at The Social Club later in the year . . .

Good Afternoon Saints' Supporters,

As Secretary of St Andrews United, I would like to bring to your attention some events that are upcoming at The Rec!

Firstly, the 'player of the year' trophy presentation will take place in front of the changing pavilion shortly after the full time whistle on Saturday. All fans and family members are thus invited to head down the slope and watch the presentation.

Secondly, I am planning on organising a former players/legends game at The Rec as part of United's centenary celebrations on the afternoon of Sunday the 28th of August. The plan is to advertise for all players through the usual channels, adorn them in the current strips, get a proper referee, pick a couple of managers and open the doors to spectators, with food and drink on offer as well. Any former St Andrews United players (with at least ten appearances for the FIRST TEAM) who are interested in playing are asked to spread the word and reserve a slot by sending an email to: [email protected]. There will be a £5 entry fee per player to help cover costs and players are requested to bring their own boots/shin pads. The exact make-up of the teams and the length of the game(s) will depend upon the number of players who apply to take part. Should that number exceed capacity, I will create a reserve list on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no age restriction and I look forward to seeing as many familiar faces at The Rec that day as possible!!!!

Thirdly, Ian 'Tottie' Barrie from The St Andrews United Supporters' Club is organising a party night at the Students' Union with the centenary in mind. The event will be held on Saturday the 4th of June with doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. All former players are invited and further details are available by contacting Tottie on 07530 373745 or Alan Speirs on 07958 919128.

Lastly, the St Andrews United Committee is also planning on hosting a Sporting Dinner at The Rec to officially celebrate the centenary later in the autumn so watch this space for more details.

Cheers for now,
Don

Please share . . .
St Andrews United FC is still looking to recruit a physiotherapist as soon as possible. The ideal candidate will have a qualification in physiotherapy and will be required to attend first team matches, predominantly on a Saturday afternoon, as well as some training sessions. The Club will cover the cost of expenses on a monthly basis - amount to be negotiated.
Working independently, whilst liaising with the Club’s Executive Committee and Team Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for administering on-field treatment to injured players as well as managing mild musculoskeletal conditions.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to further their physiotherapy skills, whilst working with a very motivated team that aspires to high standards.
There may also be an opportunity for a qualified physio to rent working space from the club in future once the two old portacabins have been renovated.
To apply, please send an email to Club Secretary: [email protected].
Experience desirable but not essential.
