I’ve joined forces with some of my fellow RNLI crew members to form One Crew Commando, and on 10th October we’ll be taking on the 6K Commando Series Assault Course — including all 27 obstacles! 💪😬

We’re doing it to raise money for Trust Links – Mental Health & Wellbeing, a fantastic local charity that provides vital mental health and wellbeing support within our community.

The Course - Commando Series The 3km, 6km or 12km course includes replicas of the Royal Marines Endurance, Assault and Tarzan courses (the official Commando tests).

⛵ OVER 150 YEARS OF ALEXANDRA YACHT CLUB

Our story began on 15 January 1873.

Victorian Britain was a very different world. Queen Victoria was on the throne, Southend was rapidly growing as a seaside town, and a group of local gentlemen came together to form a new club — The Alexandra Club.

Named in honour of Alexandra, Princess of Wales, the club soon developed a strong connection with the sea and sailing, becoming the Alexandra Yacht Club during the 1870s.

By the 1880s, the Club had established its home on the cliffs overlooking the Thames Estuary — beginning generations of sailing from the Southend waterfront.

Since then, AYC has witnessed more than 150 years of change.

Two World Wars.
Generations of boats and sailors.
Changes to Southend’s seafront.
Storms, races, celebrations and countless days on the water.

But one thing has remained…

🌊 A shared love of the water.

Today, Alexandra Yacht Club continues that story with sailing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and watersports — welcoming a new generation to enjoy the Thames Estuary.

Founded 1873. Still on the water. Still AYC.
