[Part 2] 🏏 CHAIRMAN’S END OF SEASON ADDRESS 2026

Building momentum. Growing together. Club first.

Another summer comes to an end at Southchurch Park — and while the final ball of 2026 has been bowled, there’s plenty to be positive about as we look back on how far the club has come.

Our senior league results weren’t where we wanted them to be, and improving our cricket across all four Saturday XIs will be a major focus this winter.

But a cricket club is measured by more than league tables.

This season we’ve played well over 100 matches, enjoyed strong seasons from our U11s and U13s, seen more youngsters step into adult cricket, grown girls’ cricket to 30+ players at training, got the Sirens playing matches, brought more Sunday cricket back to Southchurch Park and hosted two fantastic youth tournaments.

We celebrated another brilliant Cricket Week, held our first Ladies’ Day, welcomed more families and former members back to the club and watched Friday nights become a genuine club night.

Off the field, clubhouse use continues to grow, with bar turnover increasing from around £19,000 last year to more than £30,000 this year.

We’re also beginning to look further ahead.

Work is progressing on plans for improved pavilion storage and, more significantly, our ambition to create permanent cricket nets at Southchurch Park. It won’t happen overnight, but it’s exactly the sort of project we want the whole club to eventually build together.

Two years ago, the priority was stabilising the club and rebuilding its foundations.

This year was supposed to be about beginning to create some momentum.

Instead, we’ve spent almost the entire summer building it.

There’s still an enormous amount of work ahead — particularly if we want to become more competitive across our senior cricket — but we’re comfortably ahead of where we thought we’d be.

Thank you to every player, coach, captain, committee member, volunteer, parent, supporter and member who has contributed this summer.

It’s been a really good year.
We’re building something.
And we’re only just getting started. ❤️💚

🏏 MILESTONE | SUCADHEV SRIRAMAJEGAN 🏏

🔥 A brilliant knock from Sucadhev Sriramajegan, who smashed 89 for the 1st XI against Chelmsford Challengers CC in their Twenty20 clash.

👏 Falling just short of what would have been a superb century, Sucadhev produced an outstanding innings and led the way with the bat.

🏏 89 RUNS
💥 One seriously impressive knock.

And with that, we have our final player milestone of the 2026 season! 🏁

It’s been another season full of runs, wickets, personal bests and memorable performances across the club — and Sucadhev’s 89 is a brilliant way to round off our milestone posts for the year. ❤️💚

🏏 31 YOUNG CRICKETERS. ONE NUCLEAR CHALLENGE. 💪

This Saturday, 31 of our young cricketers are swapping the cricket whites for mud as they take on Nuclear Wild Forest — all to help officially launch the SOSEMTCC Future Facilities Fund.

And they’re already off to an incredible start…

💰 £730 RAISED — AND COUNTING!

Now we need your help.

🎯 CAN WE REACH £1,000 BEFORE SATURDAY?

The club is covering the full cost of the day, meaning every child can take part completely free of charge. In return, our youngsters are taking on the challenge and raising whatever they can towards the future of their cricket club.

The Future Facilities Fund has been created to help us continue investing in SOSEMTCC as our club grows — improving our facilities and creating more opportunities for our youth, girls’, women’s and senior sections.

One of our first major ambitions is to establish permanent cricket net facilities at Southchurch Park. We’re already working with the relevant authorities to explore what can be achieved, subject to the necessary permissions and approvals.

But this fund is about more than one project.

It’s about investing in the long-term future of our club and ensuring the next generation has the facilities and opportunities to enjoy cricket for years to come.

🏏 SEASON COMPLETE | SATURDAY XI FRIENDLY

Our final game of the season saw us welcome Chelmsford Challengers CC Twenty20 to Southchurch Park for a friendly.

We fielded a mixed side against a strong Chelmsford Challengers team, who put together an impressive 277 from 35.5 overs.

In reply, we were bowled out for 218 from 33.5 overs, falling 60 runs short but putting together a competitive response against strong opposition.

⭐ S. Sriramajegan – 89
🏏 J. Sibbons – 29
🏏 Waino – 24

With the ball, S. Sriramajegan, S. Nizar and S. Shah all picked up two wickets apiece.

A good competitive friendly to bring the curtain down on another season at Southchurch Park.

Thanks to everyone who played, supported, scored, umpired and helped throughout the year.

WEEKEND & MIDWEEK ROUND-UP

A frustrating few days of cricket, with the weather having a major say in Saturday’s fixtures.

The 1st XI managed to get some cricket in against Rayleigh CC in a heavily rain-affected 30-over match. Southend posted 131/7, with J. Sibbons making 49 and D. Shah finishing unbeaten on 30. Rayleigh edged past the total at 132/9 from 27.4 overs, winning by just one wicket. C. Chambers led the bowling with 3/31 in a game that went right down to the wire.

Unfortunately, the rain meant there was no play for the 2nd XI, 3rd XI or 4th XI, with all three Saturday fixtures ending as No Results.

Earlier in the week, the Midweek XI faced Sutton CC. Southend made 167/11 from 45 overs, with D. Shah top scoring with 35. Sutton chased down the target at 171/5 from 33.1 overs, securing a five-wicket victory. P. Elton returned 2/25 with the ball.

Not quite the results—or weather—we wanted, but plenty more cricket still to come.

🌊 FROM A COLD NOVEMBER EVENING TO OUR FIRST LADIES’ DAY…

What a journey. ❤️🏏

Less than two years ago, our girls’ cricket journey began on cold, dark winter evenings. On Monday, we looked around a packed Southchurch Park as 200–300 people joined us for our first ever Ladies’ Day.

🏏 Around 30 girls aged 6–12 regularly training
🌊 Our Waves continuing to grow
🧜‍♀️ 18 Sirens in their first summer together
🏆 Sirens finishing 2nd in Monday’s tournament
👏 A Waves side, whose oldest player was just 12, competing against adult teams — and beating Eastwood!

But this is about much more than results.

It’s about creating opportunities, friendships and a place where girls and women can enjoy cricket, compete and feel part of our club. ❤️

We’re incredibly proud that all of the girls’ and women’s cricket we’ve provided throughout this journey has been completely FREE — removing barriers and giving everyone the opportunity to give cricket a go.

A huge thank you to Claire Hendry, Conor Enderby and Scott Elliott, plus every coach, parent, volunteer and supporter who has helped make this possible. 🙌

And most importantly, thank you to our Waves and Sirens. 🌊🧜‍♀️

Our ambition is simple:

We don’t want to be a men’s cricket club that also has girls’ and women’s teams.

🏏 We simply want to be a cricket club — where cricket is for everyone.

The Waves are rising. The Sirens are calling.

And we’re only getting started. ❤️💚
