Mobility isn’t just about flexibility. 🧘‍♂️

As we get older, maintaining the ability to move, reach, bend, rotate, balance and get up and down becomes increasingly important.

That’s where activities such as daily mobility can be really useful. You’re not simply stretching muscles — you’re asking your body to control different positions, move through ranges of motion, balance and produce strength.

And there’s evidence to back it up. Research in older adults has found that daily movement routines can improve balance, flexibility and muscle strength — all important ingredients for maintaining independence as we age.

Think about the everyday things that depend on these qualities:

🧦 Putting your socks on
🪜 Climbing the stairs
🛁 Getting in and out of the bath
🌱 Getting down to the floor or into the garden

The goal isn’t to become incredibly flexible. It’s to keep your body capable.

A little movement every day can go a long way towards keeping you doing the things you enjoy for longer. If you need guidance in how to tailor that for yourself, reach out to us and we’ll help plan a routine catered for you 🙌

MEET THE TEAM — JOE 👋

We’d like to introduce Joe, who recently joined The Lab as a Graduate Sports Therapist.

Joe has a BSc in Sports Therapy and a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, and has a particular interest in injury rehabilitation, exercise confidence and helping people get back to doing the things they enjoy. He’s also a keen runner and footballer, regularly taking part in Parkrun, 10Ks and half marathons.

But what we’ve already noticed since Joe joined us is just how personable and approachable he is. He’s the sort of practitioner who can make people feel comfortable almost immediately, while giving them the confidence to understand and take control of their rehabilitation.

He’s also genuinely hungry to improve. He’s constantly asking questions, looking to learn and trying to become a better practitioner — exactly the attitude we want within our team.

We’re really pleased to have Joe on board, and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to develop at The Lab.

If you haven’t met him yet, come and say hello. 👋

Shoulder pain when reaching overhead does not always mean something is torn, trapped, or damaged beyond use

Sometimes it is a shoulder that has become irritated by a change in training, repetitive work, reduced strength, or simply not having the capacity for what you are asking it to do right now

If putting on a coat, lifting in the gym, or reaching into a cupboard keeps setting it off, it may be worth getting it assessed properly rather than just avoiding that movement

Stiffness is not just part of getting older.

It is often a sign you have stopped moving well.

That can show up when you bend to tie your shoes, get up from the floor, or turn to look over your shoulder.

The good news is that improving movement does not need to mean random stretches or guesswork.

Here are 5 signs your body may need a proper mobility plan:

1. You feel stiff first thing every morning
2. Squatting down feels awkward
3. Your back tightens after walking
4. Reaching overhead, feels restricted
5. You avoid movements you used to do easily

That matters.

- Small movement issues often become bigger ones.
- Generic fixes rarely last.
- A clear plan changes that.

Move better with purpose.
Build strength that lasts.
Get back to living well.

🔶 TODAY, WE LAUNCH SOMETHING NEW 🔶

🙌 DYNAMIC STRETCH THERAPY 🙌

https://www.thesportsrehablab.com/dynamic-stretch-therapy for the full info

This is something I’ve personally wanted to introduce for a few years. As we get older, it’s incredibly common to notice that our bodies just don’t move quite like they used to.

You feel stiffer, you lose a little movement, things that once took no thought suddenly become awkward:

• Putting your socks and shoes on.

• Turning around to check for traffic.

• Getting up and down from the floor.

• Reaching for something overhead.

• Even something as simple as rolling over comfortably in bed.

That’s where Dynamic Stretch Therapy comes in!

This isn’t simply about “being more flexible”. It’s a structured 6-week programme designed to improve your movement and mobility, using assisted dynamic stretching tailored to your individual limitations.

🔸 10 treatments over 6 weeks
🔸 Individually tailored to your body
🔸 Progressive assisted stretching throughout the programme
🔸 Focused on improving usable movement — not just flexibility
🔸 And, importantly, a plan at the end to help you keep the movement you’ve gained

And there’s good reason to believe that stretching can make a meaningful difference. A large systematic review and meta-analysis of 77 studies found that regular stretch training produced significant improvements in joint range of motion. (PubMed)

More recent research has also found that although some mobility can reduce when stretching stops, range of motion can remain above the original baseline — reinforcing the importance of continuing to move and maintain your gains. (PubMed)

After six weeks, the goal isn’t for you to become dependent on treatment, it’s to give you the tools to keep moving well yourself.

🔶 10 treatments. 6 weeks. One goal: MOVE BETTER 🔶

If you’ve started noticing that stiffness is creeping into your everyday life, this could be exactly what your body needs.

📍 Available now at The Sports Rehab Lab

🙌 Dynamic Stretch Therapy — because getting older shouldn’t mean accepting moving worse.

I forget sometimes that I can just put a post up and not make a very nice professional video. Sometimes it’s just nice to remind you we exist 😊

On that note, for market research purposes, could I please ask you to drop a like on this post as you skim, just to show me how many of you see that we exist on your grid?

Stay healthy!
