Our next Spotlight Session is coming up on Monday 14th September! 🧗
As usual, we’ll be resetting the Anti-Gravity Set with a fresh selection of new blocs to try. This time, we’re adding something a little different: a Gold Bloc Challenge 🏆
It’s never too early to start getting into the IndiBlock Stars spirit 😂
There will be two Gold Blocs, one for the men’s category and one for the women’s category. Each will have a 4-point start and a zone, giving you a little taste of that final feel.
The challenge is simple: the first person to top the Gold Bloc in each category wins a prize!
To keep things fair, attempts on the Gold Blocs will start at 6:30pm, giving everyone time to get to IndiRock. If you’re taking part, please save your attempts until then.
The Gold Bloc Challenge is happening on Monday 14th only, so make sure you’re there if you want to take part!

Chalk Etiquette Part 4 🧗♀️
Throughout our Chalk Etiquette series, we’ve talked about the small things we can all do as climbers to reduce chalk dust. For Part 4, the last one from the series, we’re turning the focus to what we’re doing behind the scenes at IndiRock.
With lots of climbers using chalk every day, some chalk dust is inevitable. That’s why, alongside encouraging better chalk habits, we have several measures in place to help manage it and reduce how much builds up around the centre.
🌬️ Powerful ventilation, around the clock
Our ventilation system runs continuously, helping to keep air moving through the centre and reduce the build-up of airborne chalk dust.
💨 StaticAir units
We also use StaticAir units, designed to capture fine airborne particles and help us manage chalk dust around the climbing space.
🧹 Getting chalk out of the mats
A lot of chalk eventually settles into the mats, where it can be disturbed by people walking, climbing and landing. Our New Chalk Technologies vibrating chalk extractor helps remove chalk that has worked its way into the mats and might not be reached by regular surface cleaning.
✨ Monthly overhead dust clearance
Chalk doesn’t just settle on the mats! It can also build up on beams, fixtures and other hard-to-reach areas, so we now carry out monthly overhead dust clearance to regularly tackle that build-up.
There’s no single solution to chalk dust in a climbing gym, which is why we’re tackling it from several angles, ventilation, StaticAir units, mat extraction and regular overhead cleaning.
Alongside better chalk habits from all of us, these measures help us keep chalk dust under control and make IndiRock a more comfortable place to climb. 💪
You can read more about what we’re doing on our blog!

Does more chalk actually mean more grip? Not always! 🪥
When a hold starts feeling slippery, it can be tempting to reach straight back into your chalk bag. But as we climb, chalk and rubber gradually build up on the holds, and sometimes what you actually need is a quick brush rather than another layer of chalk.
Brushing can help clear some of that build-up and bring back more of the hold’s texture, while also keeping the holds cleaner for the next climber.
So, before automatically rechalking, take a look at the hold and see if your brush might be more useful first.
And what about liquid chalk? 💧
It’s another great way to cut down on loose powder.
It gives your hands an even base layer, and research has found much lower levels of airborne particulate matter when using liquid chalk compared with powdered chalk.
It’s not about getting rid of chalk, just being a little more conscious of how we use it.
🪥 Brush when the holds need it.
🙌 Chalk when your hands need it.
💧 Give liquid chalk a go.
Small changes can mean cleaner holds, less unnecessary chalk and less dust in the air. 💚
Read more about it on our blog page!
And next week, we’ll be looking at what IndiRock is doing to help keep the air in the centre cleaner. 👀
