There’s been so much discussion about the best way to work out in your midlife if you’re a woman. In all honesty, I’m not sure there’s a perfect routine. That I can share with you some of the elements that are definitely important to have your week.
1. Movement you enjoy. Whether it’s dancing, a run with a friend or gardening. Movement is meant to be joy filled.
2. Some form of resistance work. We do need to lift weights, use resistance bands or use your own body weight. It all counts and it doesn’t have to be in the gym.
3. Functional works that’s gonna help you with day-to-day movements and as your age. This is where Pilates really comes in it helps keep my body strong and mobile.
Now there is totally no reason why all of these trees can’t be combined, and this is where I luck out! Because when I combine Pilates with weights, it provides all three elements at once.
If you haven’t tried Pilates, I want you to know. It’s not just about lying on the floor and breathing at least it shouldn’t be.
Space in our Sunday 9.15am class from September totally open to beginners and those with experience.

Shout out to the working mums struggling to keep their sanity during the summer hols. I get it. Here’s what helps me. Keeping my Pilates in!
It’s not always a perfect routine. It’s not an hour to myself with the door shut and silence on the other side of it.
What helps is even 10 minutes on the mat before anyone else is up, or whilst the kids are watching TV, or with them chatting to me and watching. It doesn’t have to be quiet. It doesn’t have to be uninterrupted.
This isn’t about getting a workout in despite the chaos of the school holidays. It’s about giving your body and your nervous system something steady when everything else feels like it’s being pulled in six directions.
If summer’s got you running on empty, our classes are running throughout August. Online, in person or as a recorded session you can dip in and out of.
I work with a lot of women in midlife. And so many of them have spent years…decades sometimes, using exercise as a way to manage how their body looks.
Turning up to classes feeling like they have to earn their place. Pushing through workouts that left them exhausted. Measuring success by the number on the scales.
And they’re done with it.
They want to feel strong. They want to climb the stairs at 75 without holding the banister. They want to get up off the floor and not think twice about it. They want muscles that work and joints that move and a body they can actually rely on.
That’s what we build. In 45 minutes. Every class.
Not a punishment. Not a transformation programme. Just consistent movement that gives you something back.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely still drink the wine too 🍷 but the Reformer has a better outcome and makes me a nicer person!
Midlife comes with a lot of chaos, a lot of body changes, and a lot of everyday stress. Sometimes this Pilates mat or reformer is the only place where I can completely turn the volume down, focus on my body, and protect my sanity.
If you’re looking for a workout that strengthens your body and saves your mind, you need to join us.

6 kids all living with me. 2 businesses. A brain that never switches off. A chronic health condition.
Yes I spend a lot of my week teaching pilates (and love it) but I still DO it for myself. Why?
It can be the one hour in my week that belongs entirely to me. Not for anyone else.
It’s not to look a certain way. It’s for my mood, my midlife strength, my sanity, my health.
If you’re in midlife and you’ve spent years moving your body for everyone else’s reasons…this is your sign to start moving it for yours.

Love love love a Pilates roller class.
Working on balance is key and when you bring in the instability of a roller, it suddenly makes all of those basics so much harder and requires so much more concentration. Which means when you go back to the mat, you really know where to focus.
In our classes, I love to bring it a right of props that help bring variety but also help you connect to the moves more.
Spaces Tuesday 7 pm, Thursday 7 pm and Sunday 9:15 am in studio and online.
Last week in studio the rollers came out. Cue 45 mins of concentration, balance, deep core work and some laughter and wobbles!
I used to say I taught roller classes on days I had a headache 😂 because everyone is quiet and focused so hard.
But in truth it’s my fav piece of small equipment and will make your mat work better!
Love or hate rollers?
Spaces in our Tues 7pm and Sun 9.15 class in person and spaces online in all classes.
On those days you just need to wake up and move your body here’s one flow I love….
In Pilates we don’t just lie on the mat and breath. We work on full body workouts, mobility, flexibility, strength and of course the core.
Join us in person (Southampton UK) or online.
In our mid life we have to build a body that’s functional and strong for later life…. Pilates is a non negotiable in my opinion.
For example if you want to be able to:
- Get down to the floor an up again
- Climb the stairs, mountains, do long walks
- Lift heavy items (including children!)
- Twist and bend eg gardening
- Look after your pelvic floor
- Build strength and flexibility
- Take care of your back
Spaces Wed 7.30pm and Sun 9.15am for beginners and Tues 7pm for intermediates
