Sometimes life just feels hard

Trying to keep our heads above water, balancing life, work, everyone else’s needs, with navigating such big changes. The sweats, the weight gain, the aches, the anger!!

We’re still working, caring, giving, organising, showing up…

But inside, things might feel different.

Our energy has changed.
Our sleep is disrupted.
Our moods can feel unfamiliar.
Our bodies are asking us to listen in ways they never have before.

And sometimes we’re left wondering, *what is happening to me?*

So perhaps what we need isn’t another list of things we should be doing.

Perhaps we need to **pause**.

To step away from the busyness for a little while.
To rest.
To breathe.
To be looked after.
To talk, laugh and share with women who understand.
To learn about what’s happening in our bodies — without feeling overwhelmed by it all.
And to reconnect with the woman underneath all the roles we carry every day.

🌺That’s what this day is about.🌺

A nurturing day created especially for us, where we can slow down and simply **be**.

There’ll be yoga and movement to help us reconnect with our bodies.

Time to rest, breathe and nourish ourselves.

Space to share experiences, stories and perhaps some laughter with other women going through this too.

And time to learn — practical, helpful knowledge about menopause and the changes we’re experiencing, along with simple things we can do to support ourselves.

Not a day of information overload.

Not a day of being told everything we should be doing.

But a day where knowledge is gently woven together with rest, movement, connection and wellbeing, so we can take away things that feel achievable and supportive in our everyday lives.

Most of all, it’s a day to feel *seen*

To remember that we’re not alone.

To give ourselves permission to put our own needs somewhere near the top of the list.

To pause long enough to ask:

‘What do I need right now?’

Come as you are.

Bring the tiredness, the questions, the uncertainty, the changing body, the busy mind — all of it.

We’ll make space for it.

Sunday 13th September. Damson Hill Cottage. 10am-4pm.

*Trigger warning breast cancer*
Meet Dr Debbie Thackray, my co-host on Moving Through Menopause Day Retreat on 13th September!
Here’s a bit of her story and why we’ve decided to team up for this special day that’s close to both our hearts 💕

Debbie:
“Sometimes the best ideas come from lived experience.
Following my breast cancer treatment, I started taking letrozole, a medication that lowers the amount of oestrogen in my body to help reduce the risk of my cancer returning.

Like many women, I wasn’t fully prepared for the impact this would have. Almost overnight, I found myself navigating a second menopause. Joint pain, stiffness, fatigue, poor sleep and a body that suddenly felt unfamiliar became part of everyday life.

As a physiotherapist, I understood the importance of movement, but knowing what to do and feeling able to move with confidence were two very different things.

That’s when I returned to yoga and Gemma gently introduced me to chair yoga - it wasn’t about pushing harder or getting back to where I was before. It was about reconnecting with my body with kindness, curiosity and compassion.

As my confidence grew, I gradually began to do normal yoga classes and I then undertook a 6 week programme that introduced strength into my yoga practice. From this combination I gradually rebuilt my physical strength, and also my confidence to trust my body again.

Through this journey, Gemma and I found ourselves having many conversations about menopause, movement and the lack of opportunities for women to explore both in a supportive, evidence-informed way.

That’s why we’ve created Moving Through Menopause.

Together we’ve designed a day that brings our different expertise together. Gemma will guide you through yoga, breath-work and mindfulness, and we will introduce using weights with common yoga poses and we’ll share practical, evidence-informed approaches that can be adapted to suit your own body and circumstances.

Most of all, we’ve created the day retreat we both wish had existed when I was beginning my own journey”

If you can believe it, this wonderful woman is 80 today! My mum, my unwavering source of support, my best friend.

Mum you once said to me that you’d love me even if I murdered someone. And whilst we all know that’s not a very likely scenario!, going through life knowing that someone loves you unconditionally is truly the most precious gift 💝

You are the most unselfish soul, always putting yourself out for others, always going out of your way for your family and friends.

There’s not a day goes by that I don’t thank my lucky stars that you’re my mum and that my children get to know you and experience your cuddles. You bring us so much joy, safety and unwavering love. 💕

So here’s to you Daphne Kean, 🥂the best mum, most wonderful Nanny, loyal friend, kindest and caring soul and dancing queen! Hope you have the best 80th birthday, I don’t think anyone will believe it as you still act and look about 65!

Keep being the most wonderful you. Love you always and forever.
