⚫⚪FULL TIME in the chard hospital cup semi final⚫⚪
Tonight, South Petherton Firsts took on merriott morretis in the Chard Hospital Cup Semi-Final — with only one team able to book their place in the final.
Unfortunately, tonight wasn’t Pethy’s night. 💔
After a great game of football, the tie went all the way to a penalty shootout, where unfortunately the boys couldn’t get over the line and now exit the cup.
Despite the result, the lads should hold their heads high. 👏 They put in a strong team performance against a young and experienced side and battled right until the very end.
It may not have been the result we wanted, but there’s still plenty to play for. The boys will regroup, work harder and continue to push forward together as the league and remaining cup competitions start to come around the corner. 💪⚽

as the game got underway, Pethy started strongly, determined to book their place in the Chard Hospital Cup final. However, merriott morretis were equally undeterred and took an early lead.
The Pethy boys didn’t let the setback affect them and continued to push forward. Some excellent passing and a fantastic run from Charlie Berrington saw Pethy win a penalty after Charlie was brought down inside the box.
Up stepped Hayden Smith, who calmly converted from the spot to bring Pethy level. 🎯
Pethy continued to show good composure and teamwork as the half progressed, and the sides went into the break level at 1–1.
A strong first-half showing from the boys — but there was still plenty more to come.
As the second half got underway, neither side showed any signs of backing down. Both teams continued to battle hard, with some excellent defensive work keeping the game finely balanced.
However, Merriott Morretis regained the lead with a fantastic strike from their forward, finding the top corner and putting Morretis back in front.
Despite the setback, the Pethy boys were relentless in their search for an equaliser. They continued to push forward, knowing they needed another goal to keep their cup hopes alive.
That moment finally came towards the end of the match. After a great run, Amickye Clarke was brought down inside the box, giving Pethy the perfect opportunity to level the game once again.
This time, Charlie Berrington stepped up from the spot and calmly converted, sending the ball into the back of the net and bringing Pethy level at 2–2. 🎯🔥
With neither side able to find a winner in the remaining minutes, the referee brought the game to an end — meaning the semi-final would be decided by penalties.
PENALTY SHOOTOUT
It was an incredibly close shootout, with both sides keeping their nerve under immense pressure. Unfortunately, cup football can be cruel, and Merriott Morretis’ goalkeeper produced the decisive moment, saving Pethy’s final penalty.
That save ultimately sent Morretis through to the final and brought Pethy’s Chard Hospital Cup journey to an end.
