**Meanwhile in pembs - availability this week**
A place of fishing dreams. Don’t know where to start with it but we fished relentlessly for a week. 6 kayak routes, 7 shore sections, all on baits, lure and jigs.
We tried as much to cover different sections of the island, but as some were good we did multiple sessions on some marks, and struggled as some.
We arrived at the start of the week with ridiculously big spring tides of about 12m, dropping into neap by the end of it, a mere 7m - the same as the springs we get in Pembrokeshire, meaning we got to fish different areas as the tide allowed us.
Fishing wise started well from the off, with multiple species coming aboard on each trip. Bass were a plenty, some taken on topwaters, softies and baits. Nothing huge was landed however Laurie lost a very good fish on his last day, spitting the hook on one of his own homemade topwaters.
Incidentally one of his lures became my favourite lure of the week. Nearly lost it on the last session of the week, crack off casting directly into the wind- the wind brought the broken off lure back to my feet about 15 mins later. Very satisfying and a first for me.
During the kayak lure sessions we encountered lots of garfish, a few wrasse and some mackies, meanwhile during the shore bait sessions we racked up some species including black bream, pouting, conger, shanny, wrasse, scad and doggies.
Think we needed up with 12 species in total for the week, not including the squid we both managed- a first for both of us which took some time getting the hang of. We fished a lot of places at night for the squid and the amount of fish of various species seen was just amazing. The place was alive with fish in most places.
Absolute shout out to some of the people who made it happen- my co guide & topwater maniac Laurie (Laurie’s Lures), my client and friend Dave who came for a few days and had lots of fish, also to the tackle shop owners Mick and Ed from respective shops on the island Mr Fish and JFS sports.
Huge big ups to Sam from Fishislandtv, Finn fishing, James from Mr Fish and also our hosts at the hostel.

I quite put into words how good the fishing opportunities are on the island whether your into lures, baits, lrf, tuna, big baits, species hunting, bass hunting, mulleting or whatever discipline, the island offers so much access to the angler.
