Not every yoga pose is meant to happen overnight.
Malasana (Yogic Squat) asks for a combination of mobility, stability, balance, and steady awareness.
For many of us, modern lifestyles mean our bodies need time and preparation before this shape feels comfortable.
If Malasana feels like a distant goal rather than an accessible shape right now, you aren’t doing anything wrong- you’re just in the process of building the space your body needs.
We often think the goal of yoga is to “perfect” the pose, but the real work happens in the preparation. It’s in the steady opening of the hips, the release of the ankles, and the gentle lengthening of the spine.
Yoga is not one-size-fits-all.
Because everyone’s bone structure, flexibility, and injury history are completely unique, the “full expression” of a pose should fit your body, not the other way around.
Remember, the goal isn’t to achieve the fullest expression of the pose. The goal is to listen, explore, and meet your body where it is today.
Malasana invites you to explore:
🧘♀️ankle mobility
🧘♀️hip opening
🧘♀️inner thigh lengthening
🧘♀️thigh strength
🧘♀️balance and grounding
🧘♀️breath awareness
So be patient with yourself.
Use the props.
Widen your stance.
Lift your heels if needed.
Sit on bolocks
Take your time.
Everybody is different, and every squat will look different.
Your Malasana doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s to be effective, meaningful, or worthy of your practice.
Every variation has value. Every modification is part of the practice.
💜Progress & presence over perfection! 💜
So Trust the process. Honour your body. Move with patience.
Join me in class this week as we move away from force and toward exploration. We use props, intentional movement, and mindful transitions to support your body exactly where it is today.
See you all on the mat this week
