Tonight we travelled over to Horncastle for our first league game of the new season.
We took the lead in the 9th minute when Matty Warrington broke out of our own box following a Horncastle corner, running 30 yards up field before playing a through ball to Jamie Shaw. Unfortunately Jamie’s shot went across the front of goal but didn’t go out luckily Matty had continued his run and played the ball back to Jimmy Blunden who crossed into the box for Jamie to flick onto Dave Davidson at the back post for a simple tap in.
5 minutes later we doubled our lead when Adam Carsy played a perfectly weighted through ball to Jamie Shaw who turned his defender dropped a shoulder and slotted perfectly into the bottom corner.
Horncastle pulled a goal back 5 minutes later and then equalised just before halftime.
A couple of changes made at halftime with fresh legs we went looking for a winning goal but it was not to be. Luke Tinsley saw a simple tap in with an empty net ruled out for a block on the keeper. Some strong saves from Gaz Doran in goal kept us in the game.
Man of the Match goes to Mr J2B Jimmy Blunden for a solid performance at right back and centre half.

Thanks to Horncastle Town FC for hosting us tonight. We now look to our next game in 2 weeks time at home in the Cuo against Scredington Over 35’s.

Tonight we travelled up to Lincoln to face BHF Lincoln Moorlands over 35’s in a pre season friendly. With a few new faces in the squad, the whole idea of tonight was to get minutes in the legs and see how the new lads fitted into the squad.
Some good flowing football and a quick break saw us go 1 up through Matty Warrington. 5 minutes later through a lapse of concentration in defence it was 1 a piece. Heads back up and again flowing football saw a ball whipped in from Matty Warrington and Adam Carse was on the end of it. 5 minutes later Matty Warrington got himself another to take us into the break 3-1 up.

Changes made at half time didn’t seem to change anything for us, but BHF came looking for the goals and it was soon 3-3. A Jamie Shaw goal gave us the lead again only for BHF to bring it back to 4-4 with only 5 minutes to go, but good pressure by our forwards managed to win a lose ball and Alex Kasper sealed the win for us with 2 minutes to go.

A good run out for the lads and minutes in the legs for all. Some great passages of play by all and some stron contenders for Man of the Match but tonight’s MOTM goes to Alin Ghidanac for a solid debut performance at Centre Half, welcome to the team Alin.

Today we say a huge thank you to Jeff Kent as he steps down from his role as Assistant Manager of Sleaford Town Veterans.

Jeff has been a fantastic servant to the club, dedicating his time, commitment and passion to helping the Veterans side both on and off the pitch. His support, experience and leadership have been invaluable, and his contribution has played a significant part in the team’s journey.

While Jeff is stepping away from the coaching side of things, we’re delighted that he’ll still be pulling on the shirt and continuing as a player. His experience and presence in the squad will remain a huge asset both on and off the field.

From everyone at Sleaford Town Veterans, thank you for everything you’ve done as Assistant Manager. We look forward to seeing you continue to represent the club in green for many seasons to come.
