What I wish more active people knew about recovery 👇

After years of teaching yoga to active people, here is what I wish more people knew.

1. People often leave recovery too late, introducing it once they feel pain, but recovery should be built into your training journey to support your body

2. Repetitive movement, like running, only moves your body one way that’s why it’s so important to move it in others to prevent injuries.

3. Most believe yoga is just stretching, but the goal isn’t to master poses, yoga is a way of supporting the body alongside your sport, through mobility, strength, balance, body awareness and recovery.

✅ Your 24 hour check list post run, race, training or hike

What you do in the first 24 hours after being active is essential to help reducing stiffness and to supporting your body’s natural recovery.❤️‍🩹

🌿Save this checklist to guide your recovery

💧Rehydrate, replace the fluids you have lost to help repair muscles.

🌯Eat a balanced meal with protein and carbohydrates to refill empty energy stores and repair damaged muscle fibres

🚶Keep moving gently, try a short walk to boost circulation and reduce stiffness

🙆‍♀️Gentle stretching, avoid forcing deep stretches whilst the muscles are still tired

😴 Prioritise rest and a good nights sleep, this needs no explanation

👂🏻Listen to your body and notice any pain that feels sharp, unusual or different from normal muscle soreness, don’t force anything

👉Recovery is part of your training, not something to only think about when your body starts to hurt

If you would like more guided recovery then join me for my yin yoga class on Monday at 6pm or book a private session with me to see what works best for your body

3 of my favourite poses as a professional yoga teacher for you to try 🌻🧘‍♀️

Yoga for me is a time to slow down and relax my body but it’s also a great way to support my body through training.

Here are my 3 favourite poses and why 👇

1. Figure Four, this one is great for recovery after running, releasing any built up tension through glutes and outer hips. 🏃‍♀️

2. Recline twists are a good way to relieve any back tension, perfect after a long day ! 🌿

3. Extended Childs Pose is a simple way to calm the nervous system and slow down. ☺️

Which one is your favourite ? Let me know in the comments below 👇

The idea began when I was watching rugby at Sale 🏉.

I started wondering how the players looked after their bodies between training and matches, and how they recovered from injuries.

That curiosity led me to speak to Sheila McVitty from Yoga for Athletes, and soon after, I signed up for the course 🧘‍♀️.

Towards the end of the course, Sheila asked us to choose a name for our yoga business. I chose Asana Yoga by Indi.

“Asana” is the Sanskrit word for posture and you’ll often find it at the end of a yoga pose name. For example, Tadasana means mountain pose, with “tada” meaning mountain and “asana” meaning posture.

For me, yoga has never been about achieving the perfect pose. It’s about finding steadiness without strain and allowing the body to soften.

“We do not use the body to get into the pose; we use the pose to get into our body.” - Bernie Clark 🤍

That still guides how I teach today, helping people move, recover and find what works for their bodies. 🌿

🏃‍♀️ Good luck to everyone running the Malham 10K tomorrow! And to anyone taking part in a race this season, enjoy every kilometre through its ups and downs! 💪

If you’re looking for a little extra support with your training, recovery and overall performance, yoga could be the missing piece. 🧘‍♀️

Running involves repetitive movement, which can create tension and tightness in the muscles.

Yoga can help release that tension, improve mobility and give your body the space it needs to recover, helping you feel stronger and more balanced in your training.

Join me Monday at 6pm for my yin yoga session focused on listening to your body and giving your muscles some much-needed attention.

Or, if you’d prefer something tailored specifically to you, book a private session and we can explore what works best for your training and recovery.

Your training doesn’t stop when you finish the run, recovery is part of the journey too. 🧘‍♀️

🏃‍♀️ 3 things every runner should do before race day

With race season coming up, here are 3 things I’d recommend as a yoga teacher to support better recovery and a stronger race.

🧘‍♀️ Gentle mobility, stretches to do and ones to avoid.

🌿 Simple recovery, how to support your body and mind to release tension.

🌬️ Breathing & focus, how to channel your thoughts and calm race-day nerves.

Running can put extra stress on the body.

Using yoga both physically and mentally can help release the repetitive tension built up through running, while also helping to calm the mind. 🤍

If you’d like in-person guidance, book a private session with me or join my 6pm Yin Yoga class every Monday to support your body and allow for smoother recovery. 🧘‍♀️

And good luck to everyone taking part in the Malham 10K this weekend! 🏃‍♀️⛰️

Summer wellness day 🌿

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for our Summer Wellness Day. It was such a lovely day of moving, resting, connecting, and simply giving ourselves permission to pause.

For those who missed it, here's a little recap of our day...

🧘‍♀️We began with Yin Yoga, led by me, with the wonderful Kerry creating a gentle calming soundscape in the background.

My Yin practice was inspired by Ahimsa, a Sanskrit word meaning kindness and non-harming.

I wanted this to be at the heart of the morning because although we can be incredibly kind to others, we can often be much harder on ourselves.

Yin gives us the opportunity to slow down, listen to our bodies, and approach movement with kindness rather than expectation.

We finished with Savasana, wrapped in cosy blankets with eye pillows, while Kerry gave us a beautiful sound bath.

🥗Afterwards, we enjoyed a relaxed lunch together. There was plenty of delicious food to share, all home made by myself and my sister, dishes included tofu lettuce wraps and Terong Balado which is aubergine in Indonesian chilli sambal 🌶️

There was something so lovely about seeing everyone sitting together and simply enjoying each other's company without rushing anywhere.

We then headed outside to enjoy the garden and, of course, the hens were delighted with all the attention! Besar, Kecil and Honey are the true stars of the show 🐓

🎨Jayne then brought us together in a grounding circle before guiding us through intuitive drawing and painting. Everyone created a little angel card to take home in a pouch which was a lovely reminder of the day.

We then enjoyed some Lemon load cake with tea before Jayne and I offered Reiki.

It was a perfect day and I felt so happy to have created a space where people could step away from their usual routines, listen to their bodies, rest, recover and simply be.

Thank you to everyone who came and made the day what it was. With special thanks to This Liberating Life Jayne TunneyAngel Wings Art
