L O T H E R S D A L E P A R K 💚

Lothersdale Park is not your average park!

With loads to do it’s definitely worth spending a few hours here.

The playground is fab with climbing frames for younger ones as well as older ones. Plus swings and bouncers.

There is a woodland as part of the area which you can access over a gated bridge. With a trim trail obstacle course at the start this is definitely great for explorers.

At the other end of the wood, down the steps is the stream which is great in summer for paddling.

Peeping in the bird hide before emerging out the woods you can also pick up a spy sheet with lots of species to find for your own bird / bug hunt.

The park is suited for older kids too with a field for sports, a basketball court and adult gym equipment.

There’s benches and an undercover area for picnics so this really is fab to take a picnic and stay a few hours.

Free parking on the roadside opposite.

The only downside is there are no toilets.

P E N D L E H I L L 💚

A brilliant short steep walk up to the trig on the top of Pendle Hill.

And the views are phenomenal!

Parking in the layby on Barley Road (on the road out of Barley towards Downham) means you can start climbing the hill straight away rather than coming in around the reservoirs.

4.5km circular took around an hour (no kids) with about 20 minutes of climbing at the start which is tough going but the views all the way up are worth it.

B R I M H A M R O C K S 💚

The best natural playground there is. Thrill seekers only!

NT Brimham Rocks is a National Trust site (car parking charges only apply) on the tops above Pateley Bridge.

An amazing place to explore, let the kids run wild, climb, jump and have some serious risk taking missions. However… keep little ones on a close leash!

You can do lots of walks around the area and there is the main loop which is pram friendly from the car park up to the cafe/ toilet building.

It’s a great place to take a picnic and spend half a day burning off energy.

You can also download trail sheets to do which include finding certain rock formations such as the bear and there’s also a trig to bag.

F L A M B O R O U G H H E A D 💚

A gorgeous walk to end the summer holiday and our stay on the east coast.

Flamborough Head is a lovely easy walk taking various paths around the headland to explore.

From the car park at the top (paid) you can walk past the lighthouse and head right before doubling back along the edge and see the dinosaur. The kids loved this (although it did take them ages to fathom out that we meant the rock wasn’t actually a dinosaur).

There was also loads of seals down on the beach. Hard to spot at first but then we managed to spot seal after seal after seal. Beautiful to watch them moving about.

From here head back and down the stairs. Unfortunately the path was closed out for stair repairs further down but this beach is wonderful with caves when you can get down.

The kids earned their ice cream once back at the top.

M I L K S H E D 🐮

We are getting into a little habit here of visiting Embsay Milk Shed a little too regularly!

Next to the Paper Shop in the middle of Embsay, you will find the milk shed.

There are usually 6 flavours on that keep changing or you can get milk flavoured milk!

Get a bottle (which you bring back every time) or get a cup and drink at the time.

Little man loves his milkshake treats.

T O D D L E R W A L K S - R E D C A R T A R N 💚

Pack the snacks and some duck food and you got yourself a mini adventure.

On the tops of Steeton you will find Redcar Tarn (Keighley Tarn).

It is a flat circular walk with one lap of the tarn being a 1/3 of a mile so you can do as many laps as you want. Flat paths mean it’s good for prams or big brothers on scooters.

Plenty of benches to rest along the way for snacking or a picnic. Plus lots of ducks and geese to feed/wave at.

There is a small car park / lay-by at the side which is free to park.

If you are looking for an all round, perfect for all ages, family day out then you can’t beat Newby Hall & Gardens

A traditional hall surrounded by the most stunning gardens which come alive with colour. There are lots of paths leading to different sections of the gardens with something to see around every corner.

A pram friendly 4 mile circular walk which is pretty easy going.

The views around the reservoir are lovely and there are a couple of spots you can get down to the waters edge to throw stones.

2 car parks service this reservoir, both of which are pay and display or there is a free layby just off the A59 at Blubberhouses.

Facilities and an ice cream van in the main car park by the dam.
