SKIPTON GC 2026 WOMEN'S SCRATCH FINAL

Congratulations to Nicola Gamble on becoming the Women's Scratch Final winner on Friday!

The 36 hole match play final took place between finalists Sarah Howes and Nicola Gamble. It was a nervous start for Nicola landing her first drive in the stream and having to take a penalty. Sarah made a strong start and was quickly 3 up after 4 holes. Nicola brought the match back to all square on the 10th and continued to build to 4 up after the first round.

The afternoon round started well for Nicola taking the 1st but Sarah quickly responded with some great golf taking the 2nd. At the turn Nicola was 3 up but Sarah was on a roll having won the 8th, 9th and then 10th to pull Nicola back to 2 up.

Nicola took the 11th, breaking the momentum then after a couple of halved holes won the 14th to make it 4 up with 4 to play.

The 15th tee shot was unkind for Sarah leaving her trapped behind a tree and having to reverse her club she played a fantastic shot back down onto the fairway. Nicola’s drive had taken her well down with a chip shot needed onto the green. Sarah once again played an excellent shot over the water landing the ball within 5 feet of the hole, leaving her a great chance. However, Nicola’s second shot landed on the green and she finished with a fantastic 25 foot putt for a birdie to win the Scratch Champion Title!

Congratulations to our members Gav Stocker, Chris Payne, Steve King and Brook Coward who have all been part of the winning team this season.

And of course, a huge thank you to everyone behind the scenes who gives their time to organise, support and run the Union — this is a team effort and a fantastic reward for everyone involved

⛳️ HOLE-IN-ONE ALERT! 🚨🏌️‍♀️

What an achievement for Sarah Howes, who carded a fantastic HOLE IN ONE yesterday at the lovely Wilpshire Golf Club during their Mixed Open! 🎉👏

Playing the 15th hole, Sarah pulled out her 6 hybrid and hit an absolute beauty… straight into the hole! 🏌️‍♀️⛳️

And if that wasn’t impressive enough, this comes just weeks after Sarah set a new course record at Skipton Golf Club! 🔥

She is playing some absolutely incredible golf right now! 👏👏

Although, in true Sarah fashion, she couldn’t quite believe it… partly because she couldn’t actually see the ball go in thanks to her dodgy eyesight! 👀🤣🤣

But hey, who needs to see it when you hear that magical sound?! 😍⛳️

Moments like this are exactly why we play golf! ❤️

Huge congratulations, Sarah! 🥳

Course Maintenance Week at Skipton Golf Club ⛳️🌱

It’s still course maintenance week at Skipton Golf Club, and the greens team have been working hard to give our greens some much-needed TLC.

Here’s a look at some of the work taking place:

🔹 Micro-tining – Removing small soil plugs to allow air and water to reach the grass roots. The holes are then filled with sand to improve the soil profile, improve drainage and help prevent surface water.

🔹 Scarifying – Using spinning steel blades to remove thatch, moss and dead plant material, helping the grass grow healthier and stronger.

🔹 Verticutting – Vertical blades remove lateral grass growth, creating a cleaner, more upright surface and allowing for a better, more consistent mow.

🔹 Top Dressing & Brushing – Sand is spread across the greens and brushed in to smooth the surface, improve drainage and encourage thicker grass growth.

A huge amount of work goes into maintaining and improving our greens, so a massive thank you to Ian and the greens team for all their hard work this week. 👏👏

The greens may look a little different while the work is being carried out, but it’s all part of getting them into the best possible condition for the remainder of the season and into the winter months 💚⛳️
