Another massive week on the mats at Team Kaizen! 🥋🔥
The energy, attendance, and work rate across all sessions this week were outstanding. Here is a look at what we got into:
Monday | Ne-Waza Focus
We focused on precision and control with Jūji Gatame and the Jūji Roll, breaking down essential methods to strip defensive grips and finish cleanly under control.
Wednesday | Tachi-Waza: Ouchi Gari
We wrapped up our current throwing block with Ouchi Gari. After locking down the fundamentals and basic entry, we transitioned straight into more effective live-scenario variations, attacking off various grips and utilizing it effectively as a reactive/counter throw.
Saturday Open Mat | Legacy & Mentorship
To top off the week, we had a very special guest on Saturday: my personal coach, Ian Oliver! 🐐
Judo clubs aren't just built on four walls and a mat area—they’re built on the people who show up day in and day out. Ian coached and supported me throughout my entire competitive career. More than that, he created an environment that was far bigger than just a place to train, dedicating a huge part of his life to his athletes and the club.
The standards, principles, and sense of community he passed down are the exact foundations we are building into the culture at Team Kaizen every single day.
Huge thank you to everyone who stepped on the tatami this week. Rest up, and let’s carry this momentum into next week!

Dialling in core biomechanics, maintaining relentless pressure throughout the transition, and drilling dynamic entries and high-percentage finishes.
👣 Fundamentals Focus: Kumi Kata (Kenka Yotsu & Inside Control / 組み方)
Navigating opposite-stance (right vs. left) exchanges, dominating the inside space, and controlling the pace of the engagement.
