🎶 Look what I found! Can you believe this is from FIVE years ago? 🤯

The perfect reminder that every one of us starts out as a beginner, and that we usually laugh the most when it’s all going a bit wrong, hehe!

So many gorgeous fledgling flappers, who I’m so happy are still dancing with me today….

…And a few I actually miss very much 🥹

I honestly cannot wait to share the revamped choreography for When You’re Smiling this term. Running around in a circle like an aeroplane is the perfect reminder that joy really is infectious - wheeeeeeeeee! ✈️

🇬🇷 Guess who went to a Greek dance class on holiday, and was nervous about it all day 😳

I know you probably don't believe me because I'm very good at bluffing but it's true! Inside there was that familiar little voice..

What if I look stupid?
What if I have to touch people with my sweaty hands?*
What if they make me do that squat thing?! My knees won't survive...

You know. All the things I hear from you all before you come to one of my classes 🫣

Then the teacher, Phaedra, said…

“You might get it right. You might not get it right"
"We're here to have fun and share dancing together"
"If you’re not smiling, you’re not really getting it right anyway!”

And...

“So this bit’s a bit hard, but let’s have a go - just for fun!” (followed by a slightly evil laugh...)

And I actually laughed too, because I literally say all of these things every single class. Phaedra was clearly very wise 😉

Obviously it ended up being one of the highlights of my holiday. The teacher really cared as much about us having fun, as they did about sharing their love for authentic dance.

I laughed.
I got bits wrong.
I didn’t even look at what anyone else was doing.

I got carried away and shouted, "Opa!" like a pro!

So, if you've ever thought about coming to one of my classes but found yourself thinking…

“What if I look stupid?

“What if I can’t keep up?”

“What if everyone else is better than me?”

I genuinely get it!

Walking into a new class, with a room full of people you don't know, can feel really scary. My Greek adventure was definitely a timely reminder of why I want my classes to feel like the safest, most ridiculously fun place to have a go(go!)

So, if you feel like getting out of your comfort zone for an hour in September, I'd really love to meet you at a taster session. I promise you'll get a very warm welcome, with zero physical contact and no knee cracking squats, haha!

PS. *News flash! I *did* have to touch people, eeek! We were all very sweaty, my hands kept slipping away, and the poor woman next to me ended up wearing my arm like a seatbelt between her b👀bs 🤣 It totally reminded me why I don't teach partner dance, even though I'm happy to report we both survived the experience x
