🟢⚫MATCH REPORT | ROYSTON FC 1–1 SHEFFIELD CITY FC🟢⚫

A hard-fought point away from home today as we battled to a 1–1 draw against Royston FC.

After a difficult start to the season, today was a huge step in the right direction. The lads showed exactly what was needed, work rate, determination, fight and, most importantly, togetherness from the first whistle to the last.

We defended well for large parts of the game and competed for every ball, with nobody willing to give up an inch.

We took the lead in the second half after being awarded a penalty, and Regan Millard stepped up and calmly dispatched it to put us 1–0 ahead. That was Regan's second goal of the season.

We continued to dig deep and looked determined to see the game out, but Royston found an equaliser around the 90th minute. A ball across the box fell around two yards out, and a close-range header was enough to make it 1–1.

There was obviously disappointment at conceding so late, but the bigger picture today is a very positive one.

The work rate, determination and togetherness from the lads was second to none. Every player put a shift in, fought for the team and showed the character we know is in this group.

⭐ SPECIAL MENTIONS ⭐

🏆 MOTM – Ahmed Muse

A special mention has to go to Ahmed Muse, who led the line on his own today and was absolutely outstanding. He battled physically throughout the game, won the majority of his battles and gave the Royston defence a constant problem.

A thoroughly deserved Man of the Match performance. 👏

💚16-YEAR-OLD DEBUTANT – Chidalu Nwofor

Another huge mention for 16-year-old Chidalu Nwofor, who was thrown into the action just 25 minutes into the game following Freddie's injury.

Despite being brought on unexpectedly, Chidalu showed amazing work rate, determination and maturity beyond his years. He created chances, never stopped running and played a huge part in winning the penalty that gave us the lead.

What a debut. 👏🟢⚫

🙏 FREDDIE MILLARD

Unfortunately, the game also brought an injury to Freddie Millard, who had to leave the field after just 25 minutes with a knee injury.

Everyone at Sheffield City FC wishes Freddie a speedy recovery and we hope to see him back with the lads as soon as possible. 💚

Today wasn't just about the result, it was about the fight, character and togetherness shown by this group.

A point gained and a performance to build on.

🟢⚫ TOGETHER. FIGHTING. BUILDING. 🟢⚫

🟢⚫ CHAIRMAN’S Q&A | AHEAD OF TOMORROW

With two members of the coaching staff away tomorrow, Chairman Jamie Barton and Coach Olly Ward will take charge of proceedings as Sheffield City FC look to respond to what has been a disappointing start to the season.

We caught up with Jamie ahead of tomorrow’s game…

Q: It hasn’t been the start to the season you would have wanted. How do you reflect on it?

Jamie Barton:
“It's quite simple really, it hasn't been good enough. We all know that. There are no excuses and no point hiding from it. We need to be better, and that starts tomorrow.”

Q: With two coaches away, you and Olly Ward will be in charge tomorrow. Does that change anything?

Jamie Barton:
“Not really. The expectations and standards remain exactly the same. Olly and I know what we want from the team, and the lads know what's expected of them. We're there to support them, but ultimately it's down to the players to go out there and perform.”

Q: What are you looking for from the team tomorrow?

Jamie Barton:
“I want to see a reaction. I want to see fight, desire and togetherness. I want every player to be prepared to work for the shirt and for the player next to them. The result is obviously important, but the performance, attitude and effort have to be there first.”

Q: How important is it that the players take responsibility?

Jamie Barton:
“Massively important. We can't keep making excuses or looking elsewhere. Every player needs to take responsibility for their own performance and for the team. When things aren't going well, that's when you find out what you're really made of.”

Q: What would you say to the lads before they step onto the pitch?

Jamie Barton:
“Forget what's happened before. Tomorrow is a fresh opportunity. Work for each other, compete for every ball, communicate and give everything you've got. I want to see a Sheffield City team that looks hungry to put things right.”

🟢⚫ TOMORROW IS ABOUT THE RESPONSE.

💚🖤 COME ON CITY!

MATCH REPORT - DREADFUL IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT
| TREETON TERRIERS 8–2 SHEFFIELD CITY FC

A night to forget for Sheffield City FC as we suffered a heavy 8–2 defeat away to Treeton Terriers in the League Cup.

With 10 players unavailable, there were certainly challenges going into the game, but there are no excuses for the performance that followed.

Quite simply, this was one of the poorest performances from a Sheffield City side in years.

We were second best in almost every department and failed to show the standards, intensity and discipline that have been expected from this group. Mistakes were punished, battles weren't won and we made things far too easy for our opponents.

There were some positives going forward, with the two goals showing that there is still quality within the group, but ultimately they were overshadowed by a performance that simply wasn't good enough.

This group has a lot to learn and a lot to improve if we are going to compete at the level we expect to this season.

Last night needs to be a harsh reality check.

Football isn't always about having your best team available. Injuries, suspensions and unavailability are part of the game, and the players who step onto the pitch have to be ready to take their opportunity and maintain the standards of the team.

The important thing now is how we respond.

There is no point dwelling on the result. We need to learn from it, take responsibility, work harder and put it right.

We've now got some time to reflect on the performance, get back on the training pitch and make sure we learn the lessons from a night that simply wasn't good enough.

🟢⚫ Back to work. Back to basics. We go again. ⚫🟢

🎙️ COACHES' INTERVIEW | DEARNE 2-1 SHEFFIELD CITY

Following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat away at Dearne, we’ve sat down with the coach Matty Evans to get his thoughts on the performance, the positives we can take, and what needs to change ahead of tonight’s League Cup Round 2 tie. 🟢⚫

1️⃣ WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST REASON WE CAME AWAY WITH NOTHING?

Coach:
“Unfortunately, once we conceded the first goal, we became really erratic for around 10 minutes. We stopped executing the simple passes, gave the ball away too easily and were erratic in our approach to winning the ball back.

“That 10 minutes took a large chunk of the remaining time, we conceded again and ultimately left ourselves too much to do in too little time.”

2️⃣ WE CONTROLLED LARGE PARTS OF THE GAME — HOW DO WE TURN THAT INTO GOALS & POINTS?

Coach:
“Execution and being more ruthless — not just in front of goal, but across the pitch.

“Can we be more ruthless at the back? More ruthless in midfield and out of possession? We need to stop opponents from getting the ball onto or over our backline.”

3️⃣ HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO RESPOND QUICKLY?

Coach:
“Hugely important. We’re desperate to get the season off to a fast start and not let drift or anxiety creep in.

“After the last two seasons, we need to learn to win again. We recognise how difficult that will be, but a win alongside a convincing performance would really set us off.”

4️⃣ WHAT POSITIVES CAN WE TAKE?

Coach:
“Apart from the first five minutes and the mad 10 minutes after their first goal, I thought we were in control, which is hugely positive.

“We actually looked like scoring, which for large parts of last season I couldn’t see.

“Most pleasingly, we implemented a lot of what we’ve talked about and focused on throughout pre-season.”

5️⃣ WHAT'S THE MESSAGE AHEAD OF TONIGHT?

Coach:
“Build on the positives and don’t lose focus on what we’ve concentrated on over the summer.

“Start quickly, aggressively and get the game played on our terms and at our tempo.”
