Last but certainly not least… ❤️

⛳️ Our final look into our beautiful par 3s finishes off with yet another great, tough test for par.

Cardiac Hill, as it’s affectionately known, is another hole where you’ll be more than happy to walk off with a par. ⛳️

Also now home to our honey bees on the left-hand side 🐝. The advice here would be not to hook one left into the long grass and wildflower area, as it will almost certainly amount to a lost ball. A slice isn’t advised either, as the long rough will soon swallow your ball.

❤️ 124 Yards
💛 135 Yards
🤍 145 Yards

Don’t let the yardage fool you, this is at least two clubs more than it looks.

Protected short-right by the pot bunker, you’ll do well to get out of there in one shot. Get up and down from there and you’ll walk off feeling like Scottie Scheffler! ⛳️

Come up short and, especially in the summer, the upturned green will soon dispatch the ball straight back off the front.

Go long and you’re then faced with the daunting chip back down the sloping green.

Knock your putt in, take your par and then admire the view⛳️

⛳️ As we get some respite from the heat, it seems like an appropriate time to share a few words of wisdom from some world-famous golfers. ⛳️

"If you're caught on a golf course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1-iron. Not even God can hit a 1-iron."

🏌️‍♂️ No cheating, answers in comments 👀

⛳️ Greens Maintenance Week ⛳️

While there are divided opinions on the annual course maintenance that the vast majority of golf course green staff undertake in early August, it really is essential work. The short-term disruption is vital for the long-term gain.

Lees Hall is no different, and as you can see, the difference after only nine days is unbelievable.

Ryan, Dan and Pete have had to battle through some testing conditions, with extreme weather and an ageing irrigation system making their job even more challenging. But I think we can all agree that they’ve done an amazing job.

A huge thank you to the team for all their hard work, the results are already speaking for themselves.

The Life of a UK Golf Course ⛳️

50-plus days without rain is extremely unusual for the UK, and for many golf courses and Greens teams, this has been an incredibly difficult period.

But is this climate change, or simply one of those extreme periods that naturally occur?

The reality is probably somewhere in between. Extreme weather has always happened, we only have to look back to 1976 to remember just how severe a UK summer can be. However, our climate is changing, and warmer temperatures mean increased evaporation and greater pressure on turf and soil when rainfall is absent.

So perhaps the question isn’t whether climate change caused this particular dry spell, but whether climate change is making these conditions more likely, more intense and more difficult for our courses to manage.

For Greens teams, the challenge is very real. Keeping surfaces healthy, playable and consistent through such prolonged dry conditions requires careful irrigation, constant monitoring and an enormous amount of hard work.

Golf courses have always had to adapt to the weather. The question now is whether we need to start adapting to a new climate as well.

Late July 2024 to three days ago at LHGC with our beautiful city in the background.
