Subject: Well… that’s today sorted 🙃

Hi all,

Just a quick email to confirm that, because apparently actually playing cricket was too much to ask, todays game has been called off.

After all the planning, organising, checking availability, swapping game day and getting everyone ready, it’s always nice to find out at the last minute that we didn’t actually need to bother. 😂

So, no need for anyone to rush around getting their kit ready, turning up, or—heaven forbid—playing a game of cricket.

Enjoy the unexpected day off, and fingers crossed we might eventually get a game in before the season finishes!

🌧️ AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY = RAIN. IT’S THE LAW. 🌧️

Today’s 1st XI game is officially CANCELLED — because apparently even the weather knows it’s a bank holiday. ☔😂

We picked the team, polished the kit, warmed up the excuses… and then the clouds turned up and won by an innings. 🏏🌧️

Team News for the 2’s as they head to Ambergate 3rd XI on MONDAY.

Skipper Hutchinson returns fresh from picking up 3 wickets for the 1’s last week. Raheel ‘the statue’ Nasir is back from his jolly’s. And Hamaad is still in the clouds after his explosive innings last weekend.

All signs are positive, let’s just hope the weather is kind to us!!!

Just the 1st XI playing this Saturday with the 2nd XI match moved to Monday (team news to come). And the women & girls have another festival on Sunday away at Chapel En Le Frith CC.

The 1st XI are at home on Saturday with a much changed side as they take on table toppers Selston Town 1st XI. 13:00 start.

On Sunday the Women & Girls side take the short trip over t’hill to Chapel En Le Frith CC for a festival of cricket that starts at 11am.

No game for the Sunday side this week. And the 2’s play on Monday.

Dutch’s sports bar will be open on Saturday.

Weather dependant, we’ll see you there.

Once again of our batters gets onto the Derbyshire honours board. hamaad_w1 with his blistering 125 off 76 balls. 💥💥

🏆 Hathersage win by 148 runs!

Darley Dale won the toss and, in what turned out to be a decision they may have regretted by tea, asked Hathersage to bat first.

Stand-in skipper Kevin “Another Useless Tosser” Overton led from the front with a majestic 5 off 15 before departing — leadership by example, just not a particularly good example. 😂

Thankfully, Hamaad Wasim had other ideas. A ridiculous 125 off 76 balls, including 12 fours and 10 sixes, in what was some of the cleanest ball striking Baulk Lane has seen for a very long time. 💥🔥 Absolutely carnage.

Useful contributions from Wasim Aslam (30), Paul O’Brien (32) and Zulfiqar Ali (19) helped Hathersage post a very healthy 272 all out from 38.3 overs.

Then came the small matter of bowling Darley Dale out.

Rehaan Wasim was unplayable, claiming 4/28, while Suleman Aslam chipped in with 3/44. Rowan Carr and Andrew Morton grabbed one each as Darley Dale crumbled to 124 all out in 20.2 overs.

Special mention to Hutchinson, who had been called up to the 1st XI and was presumably unavailable for this demolition job. The 2s soldiered on without him — somehow. 😉

A dominant 148-run victory for the 2nd XI. Plenty of runs, plenty of wickets, and a good display of captaincy by the stand in skipper.

A trip down the M1 to the tranquil setting of Stanton by Dale and the task of getting back to winning ways welcomed the first team this week. Another week of shuffling the pack due to the absence of run machines Furniss and Siddall (Jnr) meant a return to 1st XI duties after 400 years or so for 2nd team skipper Hutchinson. And as if that wasn’t bad enough Somerton, having won the toss (how on earth do you do that?), handed him the brand new cherry and told him to get on with it.

So he did. And with only his second loosener of the innings he had his first scalp thanks to Parkin’s wild hack at a long hop which looped to the safe hands of Somerton. Hutchinson’s request to retire hurt at that point was flatly denied and 2 over later he had a second, squeezing one through the gate to Dilks followed by the agressive Carlin trapped in front of all 3. So at 29/3 the hosts were in need of a rebuild and keeper Carpenter was the one to put his hand up. Whilst all around him made contributions, his 82 from 94 balls was the stand out knock of the day.
Whilst Somerton (3/68) and Suleyman (2/39) chipped away at the wickets, Carpenter held the innings together through to a probably par score of 244-9.

In reply Askew and Fox built solidly taking the score to 44 before the former tickled one through to Carpenter. Fox played beautifully for his 34 but when he fell, soon followed by Sohail, Pearson and Lalagha, out running on an mis field, Hampton had dismantled the visitor’s middle order in a heartbeat, leaving them 5 down and another 165 shy.

Hutchinson joined Somerton determined not to give up without a fight. With the frontline bowlers withdrawn it was left to them to climb back into the game. And it was Somerton who picked up the tempo with controlled, accurate aggression. At the 50 partnership the opening pair of Morley and Gilbert returned to the attack. Both bats took the change up in their stride until Morley fed Hutchinson a bottom feeder, to rattle his off peg.

Harries and Somerton continued to find the rope but when Somerton fell for a superb 67 from just 52 balls the ask was too much for the inexperienced tail.

Defeat by 48 runs but with over 7 overs left in the game there’s a lesson to learn.

Runs a wickets galore this week. 2 wins for the friendly side, a win for the 2’s and a close game for the 1’s but TOTW evenly spread throughout.

Plenty of good performances, Martin with his all round captains performance, Billy with a quick fire 51* Rehaan & Tabs with 4 wickets each.

But player of the week is clear for all to see, Hamaad Wasim with 125 off 76 balls including 12 x 4’s and 10 x 6’s. Some of the cleanest ball striking while still playing proper cricket shots I’ve ever seen. Well batted Hamaad (he’s never even got a 50!!).

Senior 1st & 2nd league action on Saturday and the Women & the friendly side are in action on Sunday.

Selections in August aren’t easy (holidays should be banned in cricket season). So much changed sides for Saturdays league action.

The 1st XI with the added experience & youth (?) of 2nd team skipper Hutchinson have a day out at Stanton By Dale 1st XI. Matchday skipper M Somerton returns hoping they can get back to the form of 2 weeks ago.

The 2’s finally have a home game. Hosting Darley Dale 3rd XI at Baulk Lane. Losing the experienced skipper to the 1st XI will be difficult but Overton can certainly step up as he has done already this season.

Sunday sees the Women’s team travel to Chesterfield CC for a festival of cricket.
While the friendly XI are at home to Firvale CC.

As always Dutch’s Sports Bar will be open both days.
