Ulley Sailing Club

It’s our most popular day of the month on Saturday – Youth Squad, our free training afternoon for youth members.

Apart from that, casual sailing is available throughout the whole weekend, and we have races on Sunday at 12pm, 2pm and 3pm.

And don’t forget member lunch on Sunday at 1pm! Come down for a sail, join us for a natter and a cuppa, or do the lot! ⛵️☕️

All members are welcome, and don’t forget you can sign in a guest up to six times a year.

We’d love to see you at the club this weekend!

Congratulations to Nalin, Clare, Peter and Sajid, who completed their Safety Officer training this evening! 👏

We also have another couple of members who are close to completing their in-house training, so it’s fantastic to see our pool of Safety Officers continuing to grow.

A big thank you to Matt, Nick, Nicola and George for all their hard work in developing and introducing our new training syllabus. Safety Officers now have a clear record of their achievements as they progress, along with a certificate upon completion.

Completing the training is a fantastic achievement, but there’s no substitute for experience. We encourage newly qualified Safety Officers to assist others while on duty to build their confidence, and all Safety Officers to get out on the water occasionally to keep their skills refreshed — ideally before they need to rely on them! 😄 So don’t be surprised if you’re on safety duty and find yourself with an assistant!

We have three spaces on our RYA PB2 two-day course at Welbeck Sailing Club. This is open to the public as well as our WSC Members. The course runs over two days from 9:00am - 5:00pm on both days. Ulley Youth Squad members - these events are so much fun, inclusive and suitable for members who can sail but may not have much sailing experience and coaching is included for those wanting/needing. Want to know more? Talk to your YS instructors or other members who have taken part: Aleks,

The first event in the series is on 5 September at Sunderland Yacht Club. This is part of their annual Roker Regatta and you can sail both days for the single entry fee. Parents can enter Roker Regatta too!

And if you’ve ever fancied learning more about being a Race Officer, Sunday is a particularly good opportunity. Our Race Officer is happy for members to shadow him, see what’s involved and learn how to take on the role themselves. No pressure to do it on your own — it’s a great chance to learn alongside someone experienced.

So whether you’re a regular, haven’t sailed for a while, or are keen to learn something new, come down and get involved! The more boats we have on the water, the better the sailing — and the more fun for everyone. 😊
