SUNDAY'S BEACH CRICKET MATCH AT ELIE
There are still a few seats available on the bus heading up to Elie on Sunday, for Selkirk's end-of-season matches against the Ship Inn CC and Banchory CC. The bus will leave Philiphaugh at 8.45am sharp on Sunday morning, with Selkirk's first match scheduled to begin at 12noon. Anyone wishing to book a seat (£18 return) should contact club secretary John Smail on 07787 500627.

Selkirk gets an honourable mention in this month’s edition of the “Wisden Cricket Monthly” magazine. Its editor-in-chief, Phil Walker, was a member of the Authors XI that played Selkirk earlier this month at Philiphaugh. Phil was on 94 not out when rain stopped play, afterwards being presented with a bottle of the club’s 175th Anniversary Gin for being Man of the Match. Nice to be name-checked in such a prestigious publication!

Player non-availability and a bleak weather forecast means Saturday’s Captain’s XI v. President’s XI match has had to be cancelled.

RICHLY DESERVED ACCOLADE FOR DAVID
Selkirk bowler David Gardiner has had one of his best seasons for the club, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker in East League Division 3. Over the 2026 campaign he took a total of 33 wickets, just three behind Division 3's top wicket taker, Midhun Krishnan of Tranent and PV 2, who finished with 36. A great achievement, and just reward for David's accuracy and consistency in all matches this season.

GREG AMONGST DIVISION'S TOP RUN SCORERS
Congratulations go to Selkirk vice-captain Greg Fenton, who has finished as East League Division 3's second-highest run-scorer in the 2026 season. Greg scored a total of 455 runs, just behind Division 3's top run-maker, Aafaque Hussain of Kirk Brae, who amassed 476 runs. Great job, Greg!

SELKIRK FINISH ON A HIGH, BUT CAN'T ESCAPE RELEGATION ZONE
Selkirk’s players pulled out all the stops at Philiphaugh on Saturday to record a convincing eight-wicket win over Marchmont 2 in their final match of the season.
This was the Souters’ fourth consecutive home victory, but it still wasn’t enough to lift the club clear of the East League Division 3 drop zone.
As things stand, both Selkirk and Saturday’s opponents, Marchmont 2, will both be playing their cricket in Division 4 next season, although this won’t be officially confirmed until all ESCA fixtures and play-offs have been completed over the next fortnight.
Having won the toss, Daniel Heard asked the visitors to take first use of the wicket. The tone was set in the home skipper’s very first over, when Rory Banks ran out opener Harith Ramachandra thanks to a brilliant direct hit from midwicket.
From that moment on, Selkirk’s opening bowlers continued to ratchet up the pressure on Marchmont’s top order, with Heard (3-14) and Liam Skeldon (2-17) in sparkling form.
After 13 overs the visitors had slumped to 29-6, and only a battling rearguard action by Gavaksh Saxena (18) helped the city side reach a total of 50 all out in the 31st over.
Selkirk’s other wicket-takers were David Gardiner (3-12, including two wicket maidens) and Rory Banks (1-1). Special mention goes to wicketkeeper Mikki Badenhorst for pouching two smart catches behind the stumps.
In reply, the Souters made quick work of surpassing Marchmont 2’s total. Opener Greg Fenton was certainly in no mood to hang around, hitting seven fours in an unbeaten knock of 38 to help his side reach 52-2 in under nine overs.
Ultimately a run of seven defeats in the middle of their league campaign proved too big a hurdle for Selkirk to overcome, although the fighting spirit shown by the Souters over the past few weeks bodes well for the 2027 season.
