🥋 You SHOULD bow when you enter and leave the dojo — here’s why.
Bowing isn’t optional, and it isn’t “just a cute karate thing.” It’s part of the discipline of martial arts, and it sets the standard for how we train.
✅ 1) Respect
The bow is a simple way of showing respect — to the dojo, to the instructor, to training partners, and to the art itself. It’s a reminder that we’re sharing a space where everyone is there to learn.
✅ 2) Mindset switch
Bowing helps children (and adults!) “switch on.”
It’s like a mental line: outside is school/work/life… inside is focus, effort, and self-control.
✅ 3) Humility and good attitude
Karate isn’t about ego. The bow reminds us we’re all students, always improving — and we treat each other properly, no matter what belt we wear.
✅ 4) Safety and discipline
A respectful dojo is a safer dojo.
When students practise respect and self-control, they listen better, behave better, and training runs smoothly.
✅ 5) Gratitude
The bow at the end is a quiet “thank you” — for the lesson, for partners who helped us practice, and for the chance to improve.
It’s a simple tradition, but it carries important meaning.
And it’s part of what makes karate more than just kicking and punching. 🥋
