We may have finished the league season, but we do have one more very important fixture to close the book on 2026!

The Silver Fox Memorial match, in memory of the dearly departed member of the club, Dave Scoggins.

Starting at 12:30pm, a 40-over match featuring current and former Sandwich Town players.

Did we expect anything else?

The final league game at The Butts in 2026, and in what might be his last innings for The Town, Rory Cowling gave us another performance to savour before heading back to Australia for the winter.

Another 98 runs, giving him 991 league runs for the season and an astonishing 1,622 runs across all formats this Summer! So it’s only fitting that the big gun gets presented with another bottle of Prosecco by the big guns of Olly Smith

It would be easy to look at a scorebook and make your own judgement on an overseas player, but by doing so you’d miss most of the story.

The great ones leave their mark in far more important ways. They raise standards, bring energy and experience, offer different perspectives and, ultimately, add something to the culture and character of a cricket club.

There is no question that Roshan and Rory have made an incredible contribution on the field. They’ve scored runs, taken wickets, produced memorable performances and helped us win plenty of cricket matches.

But their contribution to Sandwich Town goes far beyond that.

From coaching and encouraging our juniors, to throwing themselves into the social life of the club; from sharing their experience with teammates, to becoming familiar faces around Sandwich itself — they haven’t simply played cricket here. They have become part of The Town.

Between them, Roshan and Rory have given us five of their cricketing summers. We have been incredibly fortunate that alongside two outstanding cricketers, we got two wonderful humans too.

Let the scorebooks preserve the runs, wickets and performances.

We’ll remember everything else. Thank you Rory Cowling and Roshan Jayatissa

That’s a wrap. The 2026 league season is in the books. Well done to everyone who competed and persevered through a hot summer.

Cricket is a team sport; however, games are often decided by individual brilliance, and seasons are defined by the form and consistency of others.

If you’ve followed The Town this year, you’ve been fortunate to see some great performances.
