Long before hosting Afternoon High Teas and harbour cruises, Dorset Queen began life in 1938 as the Gay Queen, cruising the Kyles of Bute and Loch Striven. Just two years later, the Royal Navy came calling; requisitioned for wartime service in 1940, she is believed to have taken part in the historic Dunkirk rescue missions.

Over the decades, she has served naval bases and ferried passengers across the UK under three different names (Gay Queen, Alice Marie & Queen of the Fal), before finally finding her forever home right here on Poole Quay as the Dorset Queen in 2008.

🚢 Two amazing trips on the Waverley last week! 🚢

What an incredible experience it was to take our customers aboard the Waverley — the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world! 🌊

Who wouldn’t want to cruise on this truly historic ship?

We had two fantastic days out, taking our customers to Poole and Swanage to set sail on both a half-day and a full-day cruise. It was wonderful to see so many of you enjoying this unique experience. ❤️

We’re already planning to include the Waverley again in our 2027 brochure, so it’s never too early to register your interest!
