⛳🏆 High Post Seniors Scratch Open 2026

A huge thank you to the 71 competitors who joined us at High Post over the last two days for this year’s Seniors Scratch Open.

Conditions certainly provided a proper test! The rain today was very welcome for the golf course, but combined with the wind it made for some tough scoring conditions. 🌧️💨

🏆 Ladies’ Cups Day ⛳

Last Thursday, our ladies competed for three coveted trophies — the Searle Centenary Cup, Gregory Cup and, for the first time, the Margaret Thompson Cup, a welcome addition named in honour of long-standing member Margaret Thompson. ❤️

With lovely weather, the course in great condition and plenty of ladies staying for lunch afterwards, it was a fantastic day all round.

👏 Congratulations to our Cup winners Lucy, Penny and Jennifer — a brilliant achievement!

High Post Ladies Reach Wiltshire Scratch Final! 🏆⛳️

A huge congratulations to the Ladies Scratch A team made up of Marion, Sharon, Tash, Dee and Clare on a fantastic Wiltshire Scratch semi-final win against Cumberwell at Tidworth last weekend.

This was a really tight and highly competitive match between two strong teams, with the result hanging in the balance right until the very end. In fact, two of the matches went to the 20th hole before High Post finally edged ahead to secure the victory.

It was a brilliant team performance, with everyone contributing to a hard-fought win against tough opposition. The team showed great determination, resilience and nerve under pressure to come out on top and book their place in the final.

High Post will now face either Wrag Barn or Tidworth in the Wiltshire Scratch Final at Ogbourne Downs on Sunday 4 October.

Well done, ladies. What a result! 💚💛❤️

This Friday, the Ladies Handicap Team is playing in the Handicap semi final hoping to join the scratch team in the Wiltshire finals day 🤞

💧 The science behind watering our greens…

It would be easy to think that during hot weather the answer is simply to turn the sprinklers on for longer.

In reality, it's a little more scientific than that!

For our greens to perform at their best, we're aiming for soil moisture levels between 15–25%.

After another very hot weekend, three of our greens were well below that target on Monday:

🔴 9th — 9.0%
🔴 14th — 8.2%
🔴 17th — 11.9%

Rather than simply applying more water everywhere, our Course Team uses moisture meters to map each green, identify the driest areas and then target them with hand-watering.

Test. Water. Re-test. Repeat. 💧

By Wednesday:

🟢 9th — 17.9%
🟢 14th — 16.5%
🟢 17th — 18.3%

There are still dry areas visible on Wednesday's maps — and that's exactly why the data is useful.

The team can see precisely where further water is needed without unnecessarily watering areas already within the target range. Some areas naturally dry more quickly too — such as the steep run-off at the front of our 9th Green.

When every litre counts, particularly during the exceptionally dry conditions we're experiencing, it's about putting the water where it's needed, when it's needed.
