Bee's are key pollinators in our ecosystem, and a key element of our food systems.
From reduced and fragmented habitat, pesticide and insecticide use and overall climate impacts, many of our bee's are threatened. Which is why we need to all we can to support them!
🌼Planting plants that provide flowers year round can ensure they have a suitable food source.
🦗Avoiding using pesticides and insecticides.
🏠Leaving spaces messy can give them space to make a safe home. Bee houses or bamboo sticks or old, dried sunflower stems can be made into a home.
💧Providing water in shallow containers, with place for them to stand and drink safely to stay hydrated.
🐝If you find a bee out and about struggling, you may need to move them to a safer spot like a nearby flower. You can also give them 50/50 sugar water solution too.

Our campus is truly filled with nature, from bees to hedgehogs to deer.
We’ve been working hard to make our campus a place that supports people and nature.
With campaigns such as and developing our pollinator policy, together we’ve made a place that supports biodiversity and wellbeing.

Nature is loving our Let It Grow campaign.
Last week a roe deer was spotted enjoying the long grass at Christchurch Orchard where we’re also lucky enough to have some rare Bee Orchids blooming. Without Let It Grow, these orchids would not have had the chance to flourish.
The extreme heat this week, due to climate change, is massively impacting biodiversity and ecosystems. By Letting It Grow we are providing valuable spaces for nature to survive and thrive.
Long grass and wildflowers provide sheltered habitat for creatures, providing them with shade to keep cooler in high temperatures and intense sun. They also give access to suitable food sources by supporting the wider ecosystem and providing nectar from flowers.
Swipe to see some of the places enjoying Let It Grow.

This week is set to be the hottest of the year so far, with temperatures predicted to exceed 30C.
With increasing impacts of climate change, weather events such as these will become more common.
We've put together some guidance on staying safe in the heat, and you can click the link to see the government guidance and find out the water refill locations on campus. https://linktr.ee/uos_sustain
