Today, Manchester Village Spartans RUFC joins people around the world in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
We remember all those who died, those who were injured, the families and friends whose lives were changed forever, and the courage of those who stepped forward in the face of unimaginable circumstances.
As an inclusive rugby club, we hold a special place in our hearts for Mark Bingham - rugby player, proud gay man, and one of the passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93 who fought back against the hijackers. Mark gave his life that day, but his courage and his legacy live on.
That legacy is celebrated through The Bingham Cup, which has grown into a global celebration of inclusive rugby, bringing together players and clubs from around the world in the spirit of community, courage and belonging.
Just weeks ago, we had the privilege of competing at the Bingham Cup in Brisbane, where we were incredibly proud to bring home the Hoagland Bowl.
Today, however, it is not about trophies or victories.
It is about remembrance.
We remember Mark.
We remember every life lost on 9/11.
And we stand with all those who continue to carry the loss of that day.
