Giovanni wants to test oven temperatures etc so will bake bread and maybe some other bakes for you to sample.

Today is a special day as we have some fantastic news to share!!

The Bread and Roses Barge is to become a floating bakery!

Sourdough breads baked on a heritage sailing barge!

Bread and Roses Barge Bakery in collaboration with Giovanni the Culinary Adventures of a Travelling Baker will be baking organic sourdough bread every Friday starting from 9th October .

We’re very excited about this as didn’t initially plan to have it happen til our rebuild!

However thanks to the generosity of our many supporters and Essex Community Foundation for a grant we were able to purchase our wonderful bakers oven sooner and have been using it for baking sessions

This months menu will be: organic sourdough bread, sourdough scones, sourdough chocolate cookies, cinnamon buns and rosemary and sea salt sourdough focaccia!

All these delicious bakes will be available to order through our newly updated website and we do need orders to be placed so Giovanni knows how much to bake!
The site goes live this evening at 6pm
So please order by 5pm on Wednesdays to guarantee your bread

The first 5 subscribers to our bakery will receive a special cloth bread bag with our logo printed on which can be used to store bread and returned each week for more goodies!

Giovanni is an Ambassador for the Real Bread Campaign so our organic flour is sourced from Shipton Mill which is renowned for championing traditional grains and regenerative organic agriculture. Wholemeal flour will be from Hodemedods which supports farmers growing diverse, climate resilient crops that benefit soil health and our own.

We are delighted to be welcoming The Silver Darlings singers aboard for our next Live & Unplugged evening on 4th September. The 6 piece all-female crew from Southend on Sea combine heart-warming harmonies with passion, enthusiasm and a healthy dose of humour! Their live performance is both energetic and emotional.

They have performed at many UK shanty and folk festivals, crossed into the mainstream at Latitude Festival and are frequent visitors to European maritime festivals in France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. They never miss an opportunity to perform on a boat, whether it be a Thames Barge, a lightship, the Golden Hinde or the Cutty Sark!
