💚💛 A HUGE ACHIEVEMENT FOR DIEZEL! 💚💛

We are absolutely delighted to announce that our U15s superstar, Diezel, has been awarded a place on the prestigious St Helens RLFC Excel Programme, following the recent LDP 14+ Tri-Series.

Diezel’s achievement is made even more special by the fact that he has always played up an age group at our club, right from U6s. To now earn an opportunity like this is a testament to his ability, attitude, character and determination.

The St Helens RLFC coaching team were impressed by his performances, attitude and approach, recognising the potential he has and giving him the opportunity to continue developing and challenging himself as he takes the next step in his rugby journey.

His family summed up the journey perfectly:

“When Diezel started his trials, he didn’t know anyone. He was the only one there from his team and, if I’m honest, he looked like a little fish out of water. After his first session, I asked him if he wanted to carry on or quit. His answer was simply, ‘Nah, I’ve come this far.’”

And when that invitation came through, their hearts were “absolutely bursting with pride”.

But what makes them most proud isn’t simply the opportunity, it’s the boy he is. He doesn’t expect anything, doesn’t think he’s better than anyone, and just keeps turning up, keeps trying and keeps being himself.

That attitude is exactly what we love about Diezel. Chairman, Mark Hobin added, “I’m so proud of this young man. From being there to present him with his first ever shirt all those years ago, to seeing him develop on and off the pitch has been an absolute joy and pleasure. But that’s because of all the hard work and years of dedication Diezel has put in. A raw talent, with a textbook technique that came natural to him, but he never took that for granted. More importantly, he has developed into a natural born leader - always thinking of the team before himself. I am thrilled to learn of his latest achievements.“

From playing up an age group as an U6, to becoming a regular starter for our U15s, and now being given this incredible opportunity with St Helens RLFC, what a journey it has already been. And we know there is so much more to come.

Diezel, everyone at Portico Vine ARLFC is unbelievably proud of you.

Keep believing. Keep working hard. And most importantly, enjoy every second of the journey.

⭐️ Our U11 Girls Player of the Month is..Jessica! ⭐️

Jessica is a well-deserved winner this month. She's a strong runner, a powerful hitter, and always gives 100% on the pitch. Her vocal encouragement and support for her teammates make her a real leader and a huge asset to the girls' team.

Well done, Jessica – keep up the fantastic work! 👏💚💛

Pixie has come a long way since she started playing, she runs so fast when defending and she never misses the tags!

Our Open Age Mens team are now recruiting for old and new players to boost their squad ahead of the 2027 season.
Training will take place at Portico playing fields on Tuesdays & Thursdays times TBC.
They are also recruiting for a First Aider/Physio Lead.

🛠️ CLUB UPDATE | ONGOING IMPROVEMENT WORKS

We wanted to keep our members and followers updated on a number of important improvement projects taking place across the club over the coming weeks.

These works form part of our continued commitment to improving our facilities and ensuring the club remains a welcoming, safe and sustainable home for our players, volunteers, members and wider community. 💚💛

💡 Lighting Replacements
📅 Tuesday 1st September
⏱️ Approximately half a day
Replacement lighting will be carried out in both the new and old buildings.

🔥 Boiler Cylinder Replacement
📅 From Monday 28th September
⏱️ Approximately 5 days
The old building will undergo boiler cylinder replacement, including the necessary associated building works.

🏠 Flashing Replacement – New Building
📅 Date TBC (end of Sept)
⏱️ Approximately 1 day
Replacement flashing works will be completed on the new building.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while these works are carried out.

A huge amount continues to happen behind the scenes at Portico Vine, and these projects are another important step in continually improving our facilities for everyone who uses them.

🏆 SHORTLISTED FOR COMMUNITY CLUB OF THE YEAR! 🏆

We are absolutely delighted, incredibly proud and genuinely humbled to announce that we have been shortlisted for the prestigious Rugby Football League Community Club of the Year Award. 💚💛

To be recognised by the governing body of our sport in this way is a huge honour and a reflection of everything that happens at our club, both on and off the field.

But this recognition belongs to our volunteers and players.

The people who unlock the gates, cut the grass, run the kitchen, organise fixtures, coach our teams, wash the kit, serve the community, raise funds, complete the paperwork, organise events, support our players, pull on the jersey, travel around the region and somehow find the time to do it all again the next day.

They do it selflessly, tirelessly and because they believe in Portico Vine.

Our club is built on volunteers. They are the heartbeat of everything we do, and this shortlist is a tribute to every single one of them 💚💛

And there is even more reason to celebrate…

Our Chairman, Mark Hobin MBE, has also been shortlisted by the Rugby Football League for the prestigious Volunteer of the Year Award. 👏🏆

Two huge honours for our club, but ultimately one shared achievement.
