GA Purples v JSCC

Well today we began our league campaign at home to a very strong JSCC team, it was a real baptism of fire as we made our debut in the first division. We started the game very brightly, opening the scoring almost straight from kick off, Aros opening his goal account as he kept composure to poke the ball over the line 1-0, we were really looking good on the front foot, and 5 minutes after the opening goal, Amir went close, but his shot went wide of the keepers right hand post. JSCC began to take control of the game, looking very assured on the ball, passing through us, creating chance after chance, we done well to keep them out for as long as we did, then yet again, our Achilles heal, set piece delivered into our danger area and up pops JSCC striker unchallenged to head them level 1-1. The opponents were now totally bossing the game, their 9 terrorised our back line time after time, JSCC added another 3 goals before the break, into half time 1-4.

Regrouped at half time, asked the boys to be braver, get closer to our opponents and let them know that they were in a game, unfortunately it wasn’t taken on board and we simply began to implode, allowing JSCC to run over the top of us with ease, they went on to take another 5 goals from us 9-1 and all we had to show for our efforts in the second half was a penalty which was converted by the in form Sean 9-2, referee then blew for full time.

We spoke with the boys at the end, didn’t dwell on the scoreline so much, more about how disappointing it was to witness boys giving up mid game, I don’t believe we will play a better team in the league, we will need to take it on the chin and move on from it.

MOTM, true captain. Consistently setting the standards SEAN 🔥🔥🔥

Busy weekend past for the boys, first up we had a couple of boys head down to Largs on Friday evening, the boys went along to help out a Rangers soccer school team, both players had a great time and young JM scored aswell 💜💜⚽️⚽️.

Saturday morning we headed to the north of the city to face our final preseason opponents, Rossvale. Team still suffering from long term injuries to key players, sickness and holidays made it it a difficult ask for the 12 boys who were available, we had a few encouraging performances in the game, but sadly ran out 4-0 losers. 💜💜⚽️⚽️

Saturday afternoon the team were invited along to the City Stadium to take in the Queens Park v Raith Rovers game, we had our team captain and vice captain leading out the Queens Park team, the boys, friends, parents and coaches who could make it had a fantastic time, the game was close, with Rovers seeing it out, 2-1 to take all 3 points. Huge thanks to McGoldricks Pool & Sports Bar, Rutherglen Main St, for inviting the team along as your guests. McGoldrick's Pool & Sports Bar.

This coming week, we prepare for the beginning of the league cup, first game sees us travel to Kilmarnock to face newcomers, Bellfield.

Keep your eyes on the page for some other great stuff that’s happening over the coming weeks.

Some pictures of the boys at the Tass Thistle festival, it was a great day and well organised tournament, following a dramatic penalty shootout, the boys finished in 3rd place overall.

Another worthwhile exercise, getting plenty more minutes in the legs ahead of the season kicking off 💜⚽️💪🏻⚽️💜

Great day for the boys at the Tass Thistle Festival yesterday, lots of minutes in the legs as we continue to build towards the season kick off. It was also a good team building day as we have a few new boys in, the camaraderie was really good to see, everyone getting know one another.

GROUP A
We kicked off the day with a comprehensive 4-0 win against Blantyre Vics, thanks to goals from Amir, Ally and a brace from Mani, scoring 4 in this format isn’t easy, so a big well done to the boys. Onto the next game versus Ayr Boswell, the boys created many chances but just couldn’t find the net, then from a great mazy run, trialist Kian hit a strike from outside the box to give us a 1-0 lead, boys couldn’t see it out for the 3 points as we conceded from a corner, game finished 1-1.
Final group game seen us take on the hosts Tass Thistle who were topping the group ahead of us by 1 goal, a highly entertaining and competitive game ending 0-0, but big chances created by both teams, a fair result in the end, so through to the semi finals for us and the hosts.

Semi Final v East Calder

The wind was really picking up as the day progressed, it was going to play a major part in this game, we had it behind us in the first half, however despite creating chances, we couldn’t find the break through, we then went into the second half 0-0, massive credit to East Calder who made better use of the advantage of the wind to make the breakthrough 0-1, boys gave it their all in the final minutes, but just couldn’t get the goal, game finished 0-1.

3rd/4th Play Off v West Kilbride

An end of a long but enjoyable day was showing in the legs in this match, we went behind to a dubious penalty kick, but got ourselves back in it with a great team team goal, which Ally finished with a fine strike, we then found ourselves trailing again and tiring, but they found a final push and a fantastic individual goal from Nebi got us back to 2-2, the seconds filtered out and the game ended a draw, so penalties would decide 3rd/4th.

Penalty Shootout:
An epic penalty shootout, 12 penalties taken by each team, we handed West Kilbride the opportunity on 3 occasions to beat us, but they failed, as we got back to the start of the kickers, Ally put us in front and Harley saved the opponents 12th kick to give us the win.

The boys were great all day and showed some good performances throughout, huge thanks to Tass Thistle for having us and for organising a well ran tournament. ⚽️💜⚽️
