👉 Start with resistance that feels challenging: Whether it's weights, resistance bands, springs or your own body weight, your muscles need something to work against.
HINT: The last few repetitions should require effort, while still allowing you to move well.
👉 Don't make EVERYTHING harder at once: Add a little more weight, OR increase the resistance, OR progress the exercise.
HINT: Small, gradual changes give your body time to adapt without turning every workout into an ordeal.
👉 Give the big muscles plenty to do: Think legs, hips, back, chest and shoulders.
HINT: Squatting, pushing, pulling, hinging and carrying are useful movement patterns to include. They also happen to be movements we need in everyday life.
👉 Don't confuse being exhausted with getting stronger: You don't need to leave every session sweaty and shattered.
HINT: The aim is to challenge your muscles enough that, over time, your body adapts and that same movement becomes easier.
👉 Find a way of doing it that you'll actually keep doing: Weights aren't the only option! Resistance bands, machines, Pilates and our Springboards can all be used to challenge strength in different ways.
HINT: The best starting point is one you feel comfortable enough to return to consistently.
