What am I learning from sitting on the other side of the dressage arena? 👀
I’m currently training towards becoming a British Dressage judge — partly because I want to give back to the sport, but also because I think it can make me a better rider and coach.
And one thing it’s reinforced already is how easy it is for riders to become fixated on whether their horse looks perfectly “on the bit.”
There’s much more to a test than where the nose is.
Think accuracy, relaxation, rhythm and the overall partnership you’re showing the judge.
There’s still a lot of training, writing, practice judging and studying ahead before I’m ready for my assessment — but I’m already bringing what I’m learning back into my coaching.
If you’ve got a dressage test coming up, what part are you most nervous about? Tell me below 👇
