Reflections from August… There’s been a subtle darkening of the leaves of the Oak tree (which I’ve been photographing every week since last Sept), a sense of quietly getting ready for the next season.

I guess this might be how many of us are feeling (getting ready for the next season) as the transition from August to September often marks endings, new beginnings and a shift in pace.

I remember last year expecting big changes in the Oak tree as we headed into Autumn, but it took time, the change was much slower than I anticipated. Perhaps this is a useful thing to remember; not to rush progress, but to be patient and tackle one step at a time rather than focusing on the end goal.

Having photographed the tree every week for a whole year now, I will share another post soon on the whole years reflections.

Today is National Grief Awareness Day 💜

At some point in our lives, we will all be impacted by grief. And yet, grief is still something that many people find difficult to talk about, and there are many misconceptions about what it means to grieve.

This National Grief Awareness Day, we wanted to share some reminders ⬇️

For several reasons I’ve not had the usual week-long holiday away this summer, I’ve had a few shortened work weeks to allow some extended weekends instead. I’ve been reflecting on what the summer has been like for me and what I might need next.

On the one hand it’s been great because it’s meant I’ve had lots of different things to look forward to, but on the other hand it’s left me feeling quite tired.

I’ve really enjoyed spending time with different family members & friends, I’ve visited new places, seen some beautiful sights, and also enjoyed some familiar places in my local area too. But I wonder if I rushed some of this, and perhaps needed to just slow down a bit more.

As we head into the bank holiday weekend and then September, which often feels like a new chapter, I wonder what I need and want (I’ll keep pondering this).

There’s a common theme in the photos shared here from my summer… Nature! I travelled for some of these experiences, but it’s amazing what’s right here close to home too, sometimes we just need to take the time to notice it.

How’s your summer been? And what might you need now?

I’ve been meaning to share this course I completed at the start of the summer;

Essential Skills for Grief Work

Bereavement and Grief is an area I already work with in counselling, and my training course dedicated a whole module to loss and bereavement. However, I decided to do this course because grief is so varied, with so many influencing factors, it’s different for everyone. Continuing Professional Development is essential for broadening knowledge and developing skills even further, and there’s always more to learn when working with grief.

The course was delivered by Tracy Dixon Counselling who has a wealth of experience in bereavement counselling. I’m so pleased I completed this course, it has brought together previous learning as well as introducing different ideas, I feel I’m moving forward with a new sense of confidence.

If you’d like to find out more about the possibility of starting counselling please get in touch, I have some new availability coming up in September.

This is Grey Cat (a family pet) looking like he just doesn't care, lying on his owners beetroot seedlings!

Its been another tough week with the heat, leaving lots of us feeling tired & irritable. As we reach the end of the week, perhaps many are feeling a bit like Grey Cat and have an attitude of "I just don't care anymore".

So, please share your fave pet pics in the comments to cheer each other up a bit and spread some joy 😻 (or something else that you've appreciated this week, it could be a wildlife pic, a delicious meal, or an achievement of some kind).

Happy Friday 😊
