Marquis 1 - 9 Deer Park Tap

Round 1 of the The Rotherham Charity Cup ends in defeat. Deer Park Tap were ruthless. There is no doubt they will be up there challenging for the Premier League title this year. This will be the toughest challenge we will face this season and the lads didn’t give up.

Our biggest test to date. Organised, competitive & smart are just a few words to describe our opponents.

Marquis FC are proud to be entering the The Rotherham Charity Cup, one of the most historic football competitions in the area. Founded in 1889, the competition was originally established to raise money for local charities and has continued that tradition for more than 135 years. In recent years, the Cup has continued to make a real difference locally, with £8,000 raised for local charities during the 2024/25 season alone, including a £1,000 donation to Rotherham Hospital to support dementia-friendly equipment. For Marquis FC, it’s a fantastic opportunity to compete in a competition with such a rich local history, test ourselves against some of the best teams around Rotherham and, most importantly, play our part in supporting local charities and the wider community. We’re proud to be part of it🟢⚫️⚪️

Match Report

Marquis 4 - 0 Sim Roomz

Today couldn’t have started more sketchy, a pitch that was less to be desired and would have had better use as a farmers wildflower field; that being said the lads were up for it. Especially the gaffer as his reputation was on the line being a friendly he arranged😬

The game started extremely scrappy and the ref definitely had his work cut out for him today, was hard for either team to get the ball down with the surface but the breakthrough came after a great lofted pass by Damo into Coen Cooper for a weak footed chipped finish⭐️

1-0 at half time and the gaffer wasn’t happy, we needed to want it more and the hard work wasn’t over; but after a first half shooting up hill we went at it. Some great defending and some unbelievable saves from Jord meant we glided through it in typical Marquis fashion after a tough pre-season getting a win that has been coming after some tough tests in previous weeks.

As always a rock in between the sticks. Commanding in his area, out quick to sweep up any dangers and some saves that kept us out of the cosh👌
