Rotherham Town FC 1 - 5 Nostell Miners Welfare FC

Our County Senior Cup journey ends in the second round, but plenty for the lads to take away from tonight against a side playing two leagues above us.

Town made an excellent account of themselves in the first half and took a deserved lead in the 29th minute, with Josh Marsden finding the back of the net to make it 1–0.

The lads defended superbly and worked tirelessly to protect the lead, but Nostell found the equaliser in the 43rd minute to send the sides in level at 1–1 at half-time.

Nostell came out with more intensity after the break and took the lead just five minutes into the second half.

As the game wore on, tired legs and a number of injuries began to take their toll. With substitutes having to play out of their usual positions, alongside adapting to playing without the rolling substitutions we’re used to, the quality and experience of a side two divisions higher eventually showed.

It remained 3–1 until the 90th minute, before Nostell then scored twice in injury time. The final scoreline of 5–1 certainly doesn’t tell the full story of the game or the effort the lads put in.
