Rochford Running Club Rochford Running Club (RRC) was formed in 2012 to serve the community of Rochford (Essex)

Whether you are an absolute beginner or a seasoned ultra-marathon runner, there is a place for you at RRC. Our beginner groups take those new to the sport from not running at all up to 3 miles continuously in 12 weeks (or sooner). Those that catch the bug move into the 'improvers' groups, with many signing up for, and completing, their very first competitive races. Those aiming for more demanding

events, such as the London Marathon, will also find the help, advice and assistance they need to cover the distance come race day. We have several experienced members who have completed a number of endurance events - all of whom are keen to show others how to take on an extreme challenge.

And just like that, another week has flown by!

Last Sunday, RRC took part in the Essex Way Relay Race, tackling 10 different stages across Essex from Epping Station to Harwich Old Lighthouse. An event that the RRC crew tackle each year, with some of our runners coming back year after year. Well done everyone, and check out our highlight story on instagram for some more snaps!

We then had our usual Tuesday and Thursday sessions, but sandwiched within was the final summer Crown to Crown as well!

Of, course, we now rest today before we parkrun tomorrow, and it’s race day again on Sunday with RRC taking on the likes of the Basildon Half Marathon and also New Forest Marathon! It’s always non-stop for the RRC crew!

…and off the back of that previous post, admin needs to catch-up on a few things we’ve missed out on!

Firstly: AGM awards! In what was both their first years within RRC, both Jess & Sean picked up female and male of the year awards! 👏👏 We’ve already had Sean’s interview and dived into his incredible progress in such a short space of time which was reflected in his award. Jess, was exactly the same; shortly after she joined, she tackled her first half, and has since gone from strength to strength, and even gone on to do her first marathon, and always brings a smile and a laugh to club! Stay tuned for Jess’ interview due out soon!!

We also had Dani picking up the cross country award; attending every event, and absolutely smashing each course; not long now until the new season!

And finally, Shannene picked up the worthy “runners runner award”. A special award, as this is the one that comes directly from your fellow runners! You will recall from previous posts that Shannene has just hit PB after PB and has also come on recently as one of our new coaches too!

Finally, we also had a great turnout at Wickford parkrun last week; we then have Essex Way relay on Sunday, before then also heading into the last Crown to Crown of the summer! A stacked diary for RRC, and there’s still so much to come!

“You don't join a running club because you're already a great runner. You join because you want to run, improve, meet people and be part of something.”

Admin here 🙋‍♂️, and I’ve been here, there and everywhere with work recently, hence the lack of posts! But actually, I think that showcases exactly what RRC is all about. We’re everyday people, running with other everyday people.

Whether you’re a city worker trying to squeeze in those post-work miles, a busy mum, an experienced ultra runner, someone chasing a PB, or you’re taking your first steps on your running journey; there’s a place for you at RRC. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

And as the nights start to draw in 🌙, there’s never been a better time to come together and run as a group. There’s something about heading out with other people that makes those darker evenings feel that little bit easier. The motivation to get out the door, the conversations along the way, the encouragement when it gets tough, and, of course, having a few laughs along the way.

You don’t have to be fast. You don’t have to be experienced. You just have to want to run.

“Pyramids under the lights”.

It was a bumper track session last night with our friends over at Pitsea.

On what is now a cemented part of our schedule, Jo and Debbie lead the runners through thorough warm-up drills, followed by a tough pyramid effort session.

Even though the evenings are drawing in, there’s something quite magical about running round the track under the twilight sky.

Now, upcoming; we’ve got more efforts this Thursday with a slight change of terrain… on the beach! This brings a real change of dynamic to the session, and then Saturday we head to Wickford for parkrun!

There was some real true grit last night… and we’re not just talking about the race surface!

We had a good turnout for the final race of the Phoenix Striders Races summer series, and the RRC gang gave it their all! There were smiles on faces all round as PBs were made as the competition heated up!

We’re sad that it’s over but grateful it happened. Roll on 2027!!

A Bath, a Spa; two things runners often love to do after a long run. Well, we had a group of the RRC family head down to Bath this weekend to take on the Two Tunnels event! The gang tackled both the 10K and the half marathon the Sunday, and of course, the parkruns on the Saturday!

A huge well done to everyone (I think for some the runs were fuelled by some local cider…), but a couple of big shoutouts, firstly to Dave who celebrated his birthday over the weekend, but also to both Linda and Dave who came 1st and 5th in their age category placing respectively. Showing us how it’s done 🫡🩵🖤

Preparation is already underway for our next away day, and we’re always wanting to head out and explore different events out there! Any recommendations? Let us know, or drop us a message if you want to be part of our journey together!

In what was a super hot Time Trial last time we were out, congratulations to one of our newest runners, Iona on picking up the the most recent RRC Time Trial trophy! Amazing running Iona! It’s always great to see those improved times!!🫡

Excitement builds round the next Time Trial which will be in a couple of months time, where fingers crossed it will be cooler out!

Saturday was parkrun day, and another good turnout at our local event Hockley Woods.

As always, we have our usual tourists out and about as well!

A cracking week ahead for us too, with our usual sessions Tuesday & Thursday, and also Crown to Crown Wednesday night!
