Rochdale Junior Badminton Club Rochdale Junior Badminton Club provides opportunities for children between the ages of 6 &16 to receive coaching & competition at Falinge Park High School.

Rochdale Junior Badminton Club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of 6 and 16 to receive coaching and competition in tournaments. Saturday - beginners group 11am-12noon; intermediate group 12noon-1pm Cost: £5 per session. Venue: Falinge Park High School, Falinge Road, Rochdale OL12 6LD

We aim to:

• Provide first rate badminton training for children from all backgrounds.
• Provide coaching and competitive opportunities in badminton.
• Promote the club within the local community.
• Provide duty of care and protection to all club members.
• Make sure all club members are treated equitably. All coaching is led by qualified coaches who work voluntarily, are registered Badminton England Coaches and have been DBS checked for their suitability for working with young people. The club has been in existence for over 40 years. The club is a Sport England’s Premier Clubmark Club, which is awarded to clubs that are able to demonstrate that they meet Badminton England's criteria as to playing programme; safeguarding and protecting children; sports equity and ethics and club management. Clubmark is an acknowledgement that we take these issues seriously and that we are striving to provide a high quality and welcoming environment for young participants in Badminton. The club was awarded its Clubmark at the European finals at the Manchester MEN Arena on 19th April 2011 by Adrian Christy Chief Executive of Badminton England. The Club has an active schools link programme with a number of our coaches attending school coaching sessions throughout the area. Rochdale Junior Badminton Club not only provides annual tournaments but was also a founding member of the Greater Manchester Junior Badminton League.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of the wonderful badminton coach Bob Heaton on Thursday 12 June 2025.

Bob was not only one of the founding members of Rochdale Junior Badminton Club, he was its heart and soul for over 50 years. As a dedicated coach, he gave his time, energy, and passion to the sport and to generations of young players. Week after week, year after year, Bob looked forward to Saturday sessions, where he found great joy in coaching and encouraging children and young people to develop their skills and confidence on the court.

There are countless individuals, too many to name, who have been coached by Bob and who have benefited from his knowledge, encouragement, and kindness. His sharp wit, warm smile, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

A true giant in the world of grassroots badminton, Bob’s legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. Through the club, he not only nurtured talent but also helped forge lifelong friendships and even marriages, a testament to the strong, welcoming community he helped build.

His love for the game and his unwavering commitment to his club and community will never be forgotten.
