Robertsbridge Cricket Club Village cricket club based in East Sussex since 1887. Four Saturday League XI's, one Sunday XI and thriving junior and women's teams. New players always welcome!

The reason why we’ve been going so long is because we’ve always played with the same unwavering focus on cricket in the community. Throughout the year, we compete in regional league and cup competitions - both indoors and outdoors. During the summer months, the Clappers (our home ground) is a hive of activity - with three league teams, countless social and development matches and regular cup fixtures, there’s rarely a quiet evening down at the ground. We have a thriving junior section, with competitive matches and weekly youth sessions - delivered by qualified ECB coaches. We also host a number of community events at the ground, including the infamous Cooper Cup - involving local businesses and community groups - which grows in popularity year on year. 🏏 Chairman’s Xl vs Presidents Xl 🏏

Bringing the curtain down on another season at the Field of Dreams. The annual Chairman’s V Presidents XI brought together a motley crew gathered from across the clubs membership from Juniors to creaking seniors in a friendly fixture. President Pete Goodsell won the toss and batted first, tight bowling and a spectacular worldie of a catch from Chris Sharp slowed the scoring, though Simmo uncharacteristically chugged along accumulating allowing Jimmy Stewart and a returning Freddie G. to score a few quick runs several at the expense of the chairman’s hands. Leah Issac bowled tightly, Dan Bray intelligently and Hughes the wily old fox with guile. A competitive if not insurmountable total of 187 reached before a delicious tea and cake break curtesy of Marina Goodsell. In reply the chairs XI made good progress powered by some judicious shots from young Josh and a charmed Will Hoad. Maisy and Phoebe bowled with great heart, Beeching with control and menace but to no avail as the Chairman’s xi ran out winners with an over or two to spare.
Thanks to Hayley for a long shift scoring and everyone who took part in a spirited game.

Saturday Summary: ✅✅✅✅

The perfect end to the league season: 120 points.

Wickets were hard to come by for the 1sts, but they kept the scoring in check. Rob Geaney (2-28) made use of the pitch and Luke Flint (1-34) put in a great spell. Tom Glenn (51) started the chase before a hundred partnership between Josh Goodsell (71) and George Obrey (60) sealed the win.

James Brightman (66) started well for the 2nd before Matt Wilkinson (93) slapped the ball around the clappers. Seb Stovell (64) ensured a huge total. When Jamie Hudson picked up (4-43) the game was over: Callum Nice (2-6) and Alex White (2-1) finished it off.

Wickets were spread for the 3rds: Boudi Igbokwe (1-22) and Noah Newman (1-14) opened up, before Ethan Nice (2-19), Dan Bray (3-27) and Alan Pavitt (2-10) took the middle order apart. A decent started from
Dan Thomas (24) and Martin Sims (20) started the chase and then Igbokwe (39) smashed his way to the win.

Lots of contributions got the 4ths to a decent total: Josh Tidmarsh (25), Ollie Tidmarsh (39) and Theo Crofton (17) the best scores. All 6 bowlers took a wicket to win the game, James Crofton (3-13) the pick of the bowlers.

A HUGE thank you to everyone in Robertsbridge and beyond who has helped make this year’s Cooper Cup such a fantastic success! 🏏☀️

What an incredible two months it has been. The Cooper Cup is one of the absolute highlights of the summer for Robertsbridge Cricket Club, and it simply would not happen without the support, generosity, enthusiasm and hard work of so many people.

A massive thank you to our wonderful bar staff, umpires, scorers, BBQ team, groundsmen, the finals day sound team, raffle co-ordinators, players, spectators, and of course our incredibly generous raffle prize donors. Every single person has played a part in making this year’s competition so special.

We have also been unbelievably lucky with the weather, which has smiled on us throughout the tournament and allowed us to complete all 28 matches. Even more remarkably, we welcomed a record-breaking 16 teams to the Cooper Cup in 2026. What an achievement for the club and the community!

More than anything, the tournament has once again been packed with laughter, friendly rivalry, brilliant cricket, and a wonderful sense of togetherness. The standard on the pitch has been outstanding, but the Spirit of Cricket has undoubtedly been the real winner throughout the competition.

Congratulations of course to our worthy champions, H&T, on taking home the trophy (again-again!)! 🏆

Thank you all for making the Cooper Cup such a memorable, fun-filled and successful event. We are incredibly lucky to have such an amazing community behind the club, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year! ❤️🏏

Not the result we wanted, but the atmosphere on the bus back confirms we are the greatest cricket club in the world.

David Williams (1-21) was unplayable early up and could have got more, he was more than supported by the superb Jacob Pexton (4-0-19-1) and we had control. The skipper Lewis Chapman (3-22) led from the front and Will Stovell (1-12) was superb.

James Brightman (20) got us going but we were sticky at the other end. A 50 partnership between Josh Goodsell (19) and Liam McLean (34) held the innings together. Luke Flint (13) utilised all of his bat to give us hope, but we feel painfully short.

Next year boys, Next Year.
